Tour of Lake Genin

This small mountain lake, situated in a clearing at an altitude of 830 m, is nicknamed ‘the Little Canada of the Haut-Bugey’. It is surrounded by tall trees that take on vibrant colours in autumn. In summer, the cool waters of the lake are a source of refreshment for walkers. In winter, covered in snow and ice, with the sun’s rays glinting off the surface, the view is undoubtedly even more beautiful! Every season will enchant you.

Description of the walk

A large car park is available on the western shore of Lake Genin.

(S/E) Start your walk around the lake by heading north, leaving a pumping station on your left. Walk along the lake on your right-hand side, passing a boat launch area.

(1) Move away from the lakeshore and leave a protected wetland area on your right. Join a path just above it which leads through a meadow.

(2) At a T-junction, turn right, heading due south, and you’ll soon reach a Fork in the road.

(3) Turn right to reach the lakeshore. Follow the shore on your right along a shaded path that winds its way through numerous tree roots.

(4) Cross the spillway at its southern end. Continue as close to the lake as possible to return to the car park where you started (S/E).
