Park in the large car park approximately 1.5 km on leaving Saint-Germain-de-Joux on the Route de Giron 1000, at a designated lay-by.
(S/E) Leave the road leading to Giron and take the one on the right, Route des Combes, as far as the bend. Leave the road and take the path that branches off at the bend to join the track on the right and reach the hamlet of Les Combes.
(1) Turn right onto Rue de la Fontaine, which leads back down towards Route des Combes. When you reach the road, turn immediately left onto Chemin de la Conche. Cross Route des Combes again and continue straight ahead. You will arrive at the hamlet of Marnod.
(2) Turn left, then join theGRP® Grand Tour de la Valeserine trail. Carry on until the end of the tarmac section.
(3) Leave theGRP® here and take a path on the left, running parallel to theGRP®, rejoining the GRP® further on.
(4) rejoin theGRP® on the left and head towards the crossroads by the houses in Mures.
(5) Leave theGRP® again by turning right onto the Chemin de Mures. At the next junction, turn left onto the Chemin de Maison Large and join the D48, known as the Route de Chamfromier.
(6) Cross it and take the path leading off opposite. Continue first through woodland and then across meadows to reach the entrance to the village of Giron.
(7) Enter the village, keeping the church tower in sight; walk past the church and then the cemetery. Continue straight on until you reach the Route de Belleydoux. Stay on this road as it descends until you reach the second hairpin bend.
(8) At the exit of this bend, take the track on the left, which continues downhill. Turn right at the first fork. You will reach Nant du Mort.
(9) Cross the stream – be careful, as it is very slippery when it rains. Continue downhill, ignoring the first fork to the right, until you reach a second fork at a tight hairpin bend.
(10) Turn almost 180° to the right and continue on a gentle descent until you reach a wider track.
(11) Turn left onto this track. Turn right at the end of this track to reach the Ruisseau de la Semine.
(12) Turn left onto the fishermen’s path running alongside the river downhill to reach a bridge. Turn right here, reach the hamlet of Moulin Neuf and walk through it.
(13) Take the path which climbs steeply near a garden. Cross the Route de Semine once to reach the road again. Follow it uphill for about 400 m, then take the path on the right, which is clearly visible in the woods. Continue uphill along this path through the woodland and join the D33 at the hamlet of La Côte Druet.
(14) Cross the road, walk past the fountain and join the track. Continue uphill to a four-way junction at the edge of the woods.
(15) Leave the track and take the path on the left towards Miribel. You’ll reach the houses via Rue du Grand Ballot. Carry on to the D49, known as the Haut Jura road. Take it downhill, pass the town hall and turn left at the square to go past the side of the church and then the cemetery. You’ll reach Rue du Verger in the Caquet neighbourhood.
(16) Follow it downhill. At the next junction, turn right onto Sous Lachat and continue to a junction by the sewage treatment works.
(17) Leave the road and turn right onto the dirt track. After a few bends, you’ll reach the ponds of the Prapont fish farm. Cross the river and take the road to the car park at the rest area (S/E).
