You can easily park in the La Tannerie shopping centre car park, which is open 24 hours a day. The starting point is also accessible by bus: lines 11 and 13.
(S/E) Turn left onto Rue François Simon, which will take you to the Vallières neighbourhood.
(1) Turn left, walk past the shopping centre and, staying on the left-hand pavement, walk up this long street until you reach the Metz-Vallières Socio-Cultural Centre.
(2) Turn left onto Rue Charlotte Jousse, then turn right onto the path that runs alongside the Vallières stream and passes behind the cultural centre. Continue along this path, which winds through the park with the stream on your left, until you reach Rue Charlotte Jousse.
(3) Stay on the right-hand pavement, pass in front of the cemetery (on both sides) and then take the path on the right to continue along the stream. Continue until you reach a bridge.
(4) If the footbridge is accessible (under construction in February 2025), you can pass under the bridge. Otherwise, take the stairs on your left, cross Rue de la Corchade, which spans the stream, and resume the path opposite. Continue until you reach a bridge that crosses the stream. Turn left immediately to continue along the stream until you reach Rue du Saulnois. Walk up this steep street to the first crossroads.
(5) Turn left onto Rue des Gentianes and follow this residential street in the Corchade neighbourhood until you reach a bend. Ignore the road opposite and take this bend.
(6) Immediately turn left onto a path that runs alongside the large field on the left. Follow this path, keeping the houses on your right, then turn right to rejoin the street. Turn left again to rejoin Rue des Hauts Jardins and continue until you reach a crossroads.
(7) At number 5, take the street on the left, a path that descends towards the village of Vantoux. You will come to Rue des Trois Bosses. Follow it straight ahead, pass the new housing development and you will come out opposite a park on Rue de la Gare. Take this street and enter Vantoux. After passing a beautiful farmhouse on your left, stay on this street and, after a sharp right-hand bend, join Rue du Lavoir, ignoring all the streets that branch off to the left. Pass through an old wash house until you reach the sports grounds. Walk along the first football pitch until you reach a path that branches off to the left at No. 16.
(8) Go up this path to reach Impasse le Clos du Moulin. Follow this street, cross Rue Jean-Julien Barbé with great care and take Rue du Coteau opposite, slightly to the right. When you reach a three-way junction, take the path opposite that leads through the houses. Stay on this path, which runs alongside the gardens of the houses in the neighbourhood, to return to a new residential street. Turn right and then immediately left after the house on Impasse de la Bergerie. Go to the end of this cul-de-sac after a small roundabout.
(9) Continue along the path that starts at the end of this cul-de-sac and turn right onto Chemin de Vantoux. Continue along Chemin des Juifs, which climbs steeply until you reach Rue Émile Knoepfler. Turn left, go around Place des Vignes and continue on the road opposite which leads into the village until you reach Saint-Pierre Church in Mey, where you will join the GR®°°®°°5, marked in white and red.
(10) Follow it to the left, walk past the church and go down Rue de l'École. Pass in front of the beautiful Mey town hall, ignore the streets that branch off to the right and continue to the end of this street. Then take a dirt track that turns right and stay on the GR®5 through the fields, ignoring the other paths that branch off to the sides. Continue until you reach the easily recognisable Tour des Marronniers.
(11) Take the street on the right when you reach the Marronniers neighbourhood and you will arrive at the tower. Then take the paved path (Chemin des Airelles) that starts opposite the tower and crosses a park. Stay on this path until you reach Rue des Frênes, cross the street and walk along it, turning left onto the pavement.
(12) Turn right onto Rue des Carrières, which slopes downhill, until you reach a roundabout.
(13) Take the first right, Rue des Mélèzes, which descends steeply, and stay on the pavement on the right. When you reach No. 19, turn right again onto Rue des Terres Rouges and continue downhill until you reach a three-way junction. Turn left, ignore Impasse du Ruisseau, and head for the bridge, which will take you back to the starting point (S/E).
