Tour of the Arcachon Basin, from Arès to Audenge

The second stage of the tour of the Arcachon Basin is very varied: crossing villages, walking along wild shores, arriving at the Domaine de Certes and Graveyron, where other hikes can be done, and the pleasant town of Audenge. If you only do one stage, this is the one to choose.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Half-tour of the Arcachon Basin

Description of the walk

(S) From the church in Arès, follow Avenue de la Plage, marked with yellow and red signs. At the roundabout, turn left onto Rue du 14 Juillet and continue to number 56.

(1) Continue right onto Rue des Baigneurs, then left onto Boulevard Javal. Continue straight ahead until you reach the shore of the basin.

(2) Pass between the two bodies of water, then cross the Ruisseau de Cirès footbridge. Continue along the coastal path to Pointe des Quinconces.

(3) Walk along the oyster beds, reach the port and then the church of Andernos-les-Bains.

(4) Take Boulevard de la Plage on the right, then the alley opposite No. 14 and reach the water's edge. Turn left and arrive at Place Louis David.

(5) Cross it and take the second street on the left. Continue along Avenue Pasteur, then turn right onto Avenue Vergniaud. Walk along Jardin Louis David, first turn left then right, continue along the same avenue and follow it to Avenue Camille Rongier.

(6) Turn right onto it, then quickly turn left onto Boulevard Albert Degrais and continue to the next fork. Turn right onto Boulevard de Verdun and, at the end, continue left to the Port du Béley harbour master's office.

(7) Continue left and go around the basin until you reach the opposite corner. Continue left, walk along the wooded park and follow the shore until you reach the corner of a campsite.

(8) Continue along the shore and then take the stairs to reach the marina. At its northern end, join the GRP®. Turn right onto the path and continue straight ahead on the tarmac in an urban environment until you reach Port de Taussat, located on the right after the last houses on Rue Albert Pitres.

(9) Turn left and follow the shore as closely as possible to Port de Cassy. The route is more natural and offers excellent bird watching opportunities.

(10) Go around it, walk along a basin on your left and continue to follow the shore to a developed area at the Lanton swimming basin. Note the entrance to the Domaine de Certes on the dyke opposite.

(11) Leave the marked trail and turn right onto a wooden boardwalk at the roundabout. Cross the marshes to reach the Church of Notre-Dame de Lanton and its cemetery.

(12) Walk along the left-hand side of the cemetery and follow the path to the reception area of the Domaines de Certes and Graveyron.

(13) Enter and cross the park diagonally, passing by the castle, before reaching the opposite exit.

(14) Cross the bridge on the right and then turn left. Follow the path and keep left to reach the tarmac road at the skatepark.

(15) Continue to the left, past the harbour and Graveyron Beach, until you reach a path on the right.

(16) After enjoying the view, return the way you came to the skatepark.

(15) Turn right and head to Place du Marché on the edge of Avenue du Général de Gaulle (S/E).
