Circular route in Andernos starting from Arès

A round trip along the gulf, starting from an oyster farming village, followed by a short circular route in Andernos to enjoy a pretty wood and a small river. On the way back, to extend the hike, I suggest a round trip through the salt marshes.
The Visorando app is highly recommended in the woods of Andernos.

Description of the walk

In Arès, park at the oyster port.

(S/E) Return to the east side of the port and follow the road that runs alongside the huts, heading south. At the end of the road, turn left and, in front of the gate, follow the path on your right (marked Chemin de Compostelle). Stay on this path, which follows the coast as closely as possible.

(1) Make a short return trip to the jetty, then continue.

(2) Walk along Arès Beach, then continue on the path. Further on, walk along the ponds on your left, ignore a path that branches off to the left, then take a footbridge over the Cirès stream.

(3) On the other side, keep to the right, staying as close to the coast as possible. You will arrive at the oyster port of Andernos.

(4) Go around it on the left, walk to the huts, then head to the church located in a small park.

(5) With your back to the front of the church (bell tower side), cross to the street opposite, turn left and continue to the roundabout. Continue straight ahead, between a car park on the left and "La Bouée" on the right. Pass a street on the right, then, in the right-hand bend, turn left onto Rue François Mauriac. Go straight ahead at the crossroads, into the cul-de-sac, and at the end of the street you will arrive at the entrance to a wood.

(6) We recommend using the Visorando app for this section (a compass may suffice) as the woods are criss-crossed with paths. Continue straight ahead on the path, heading west-northwest then northwest. Cross a stream and continue straight ahead at the intersection.

(7) At the intersection a hundred metres further on, turn slightly to the right, north-northeast, then continue in this direction. Further on, you will come to an intersection near a road.

(8) Take a sharp left turn (south-west) onto a path that quickly runs alongside the Cirès stream. It leads back to the footbridge you crossed on the way there.

(3) Retrace your steps along the same route to return to the oyster port of Arès.

(S/E) To explore the marshes facing the gulf, turn right (information signs). Continue to a footbridge, about a hundred metres after a sharp right-hand bend.

(9) Turn around and return to the oyster port of Arès (S/E) by retracing your steps.

Notes

Hike of moderate difficulty, leaning towards easy.
GPS or Visorando app almost essential in the Andernos woods.
Please note: during hunting season (i.e. almost all the time), the OSM map shows numerous hunting posts in the woods.

A pleasant walk with beautiful views of the bay when you're at the water's edge. Done in partly sunny weather, quite warm but the air at the water's edge prevented it from getting too hot. Low tide meant we could walk on wet sand, which was less tiring than walking on dry sand.
