Tour of Pointe de Loquirec

To walk around the Pointe de Locquirec, this route begins with a stretch through the countryside, past fields of artichokes and cereals, and through hamlets, before reaching the coast at the Douron estuary. It then follows the GR®34 coastal path, passing through the centre of Locquirec. You can enjoy Moulin de la Rive Beach on your return from the walk.

Description of the walk

Park in the Moulin de la Rive car park, which is on the D66a at the Locquirec town sign when approaching from the west.

(S/E) Set off along the GR®, following the red and white markings, heading north-east towards the cluster of houses (old mill, weathered information sign), crossing a stream. About a hundred metres further on, leave the GR® and follow a path marked in yellow which climbs steeply to the right. Further on, ignore the coastal path to the left and you’ll reach the end of a street at a place called Keraël.

(1) Carry on straight ahead, ignoring the streets on either side, until you reach a main road (D64). Follow it to the left and cross over to take the first street on the right (towards the industrial estate). Shortly afterwards, the street becomes a track.

(2) At the junction of four tracks, go straight ahead, then at the T-junction, turn left. When you reach the end of the road, go straight on, then turn right onto Rue des Aubépines, and right again at the next T-junction.

(3) At the crossroads of four streets, carry on straight ahead, towards the water tower. Pass the water tower, then, a little further on, turn left onto a track and immediately ignore a path on the right marked in yellow. When you reach a road, follow it to the left, then cross the road to take the path opposite, marked by a pretty little cross surrounded by hydrangeas. Shortly afterwards, be careful not to continue along this path (not marked on IGN maps) and veer right onto a much less marked grassy path.

(4) At the next junction (marked with the reverse black and white signs for the Tro Breiz pilgrimage route), turn right. You’ll reach a road; follow it to the right, then turn onto the first path on the left. At the T-junction, take the barely visible path on the right. A little further on, you’ll come to a road.

(5) Follow it to the left, then turn onto the second path on the right. 100 metres further on, you’ll reach the end of a road and follow the grassy path straight ahead. At the junction of three paths, follow the GRP® to the left (marked in red and yellow), reach the end of a road and continue straight ahead along a poorly maintained path. Pass a wash house, then arrive at the hamlet of Linguez.

(6) Carry on straight ahead along the tarmac road, go round the chapel on the left, then follow the path straight ahead. Pass behind the Tour d’Argent manor house and walk up its driveway to join a busy road at the entrance to the bridge over the Douron.

(7) For a view of the Tour d’Argent manor house (on the west side) and the Île Blanche manor house (on the east side), take a short walk across the bridge and back.

(7) On your return, turn right as you face the finishing path to follow the GR®34 (red and white, to be followed until the end of the walk) and the GRP®. You’ll soon reach a road; follow it to the right, then turn right onto the path along the banks of the Douron in front of the entrance to the Île Blanche visitor centre (spiritual retreats). Continue along the path beside the Douron, skirting the Île Blanche estate on the right and then the tennis courts. You’ll reach the end of a street at the entrance to the tennis courts.

(8) Continue along the path that climbs opposite. You’ll reach a road; follow it to the right, then take the path that runs alongside the very long campsite, with Fond de la Baie Beach on your right.

(9) Once you reach the end of the campsite, the path takes a sharp left-hand bend and joins a road; turn right here to rejoin a coastal path. Further on, you’ll need to head up a road and keep to the right to go round some private properties.

(10) Turn right onto the path as soon as possible, but you’ll need to head uphill again shortly afterwards to continue along a road. Finally, take the steps on the right to reach the coast at Locquirec harbour (drinking fountain). Continue to the left, take a path and join a road, which you should follow to the right to reach Place du Port.

(11) Carry on straight ahead along Rue de l’Église, go round the church on the left (gravestones, wayside cross, garden) then walk past the old vicarage on your right. Pass the beautiful Ker Yann mansion and continue along this street, discovering other beautiful mansions. At the end of the street, carry on along the coastal path.

(12) Pass Pointe du Château; a little further on, you’ll come to a street – carry on straight ahead to the end. Turn right, then walk round a car park.

(13) Turn right onto Rue Nouvelle Côte and, 150 metres further on, take the coastal path on the right. You’ll reach the end of a street, where you’ll find a beautiful wash house and its fountain; continue along the path which carries on to the right after the wash house. You’ll come to a road; follow it to the right, then keep right at the junction to rejoin a path at Pointe du Corbeau.

(14) Follow the coastal path, staying as close to the coast as possible.

(15) Walk past a car park at Plage des Sables Blancs. A little further on, you’ll come back to the junction where the walk began and, very soon after, the car park (S/E).
