From Amélie-les-Bains-Palada, take the D115 towards Arles-sur-Tech, then turn right at the Arles exit onto the D43 towards Corsavy and continue on this road to the Col de la Descarga (altitude 1393). Take the track opposite, which leads to the Tour de Batère (altitude 1424). Park on the right, just before the tower: there are four to five parking spaces available.
(S/E) Take the gravel track that goes around the tower on the right, until you reach the intersection with a grassy track that runs alongside a pine forest.
(1) Turn right onto the open track that climbs slightly towards the east and quickly turns south as it descends.
Yellow and red markings
(2) At the next intersection, just before Coll Bufador (elevation 1336), take the path that descends through the beech forest to Col de Formentera (elevation 1133): nice view of the mountain slopes down to the sea if visibility is good.
No markings
(3) Turn back and take the grassy horizontal track, which is closed by a barrier: ignore the stony track that goes in the same direction. The entire route is now flat on this pretty grassy track that winds through beech woods. It is an old railway line used during the mining era, and there are still structures from that time that bear witness to the boom in mining. The track crosses more or less active streams with built-up beds.
Yellow markings
(4) At the intersection with a path (upstream and downstream), a sign indicates "Tour de Batère". Turn left and continue climbing through the woods until you reach a gravel track. Descend for a few metres.
(5) Climb to the left to continue along the path that leads back under the Tour de Batère and to the car park (S/E).
