Coll Palomeres - Creu d'en Turon - Santa Anna from La Bastide

A beautiful hike in the open air with the aim of climbing Santa Anna dels Quatre Termes. First, a climb to Coll Palomeres, then a very beautiful ridge path to reach Creu del Turon (crossroads on the hill). Then a steep climb to reach the ruins of the chapel located on the cadastral boundary of four municipalities (hence its name). The return via the Chemin Rural from Creu d'en Turon is very interesting. Marked path on private property: please respect the areas you pass through and close gates and fences behind you.

Description of the walk

From Le Boulou, there are several road options for reaching La Bastide.
For example, just at the entrance to Céret, turn right before the bridge towards: Oms, Calmeilles, Coll d'en Fortó (col du fourre-tout), D618, La Trinité, Coll d'en Xatard, then the D13 to La Bastide.
In the village, there is a sculpture and an old mining skip.
Park in the municipal campsite car park.

(S/E) Head south to the crossroads (large wash house on the left). On the right, you will see a well topped with a stone cone and a large building (toilets, with a play area and drinking water).

Yellow/white and yellow markings.

The D13 is not very busy, but caution is advised when crossing the four roads.

(1) Go around the well on the right and climb the stairs next to the concrete house on the right. Directional signs. Keep heading south-west on the left. Join a grassy track in a grazing area. Follow it for a few metres. Leave the house at the end on the right and head further left along the edge of the forest on the left until you reach the D13.

(2) Cross it once and climb up the path opposite, then a little further on, cross a grassy track and rejoin the D13.

(3) Cross it a second time and take a path to rejoin the D13 a little further on.

(4) Cross it a third time, climb up to the right, above the road for about 150 metres, and rejoin the D13 once more.

(5) Head opposite on the left-hand side of the D13 to Cortal d'en Baus at an altitude of 1007 metres.

(6) Climb up to the right along a path above the road but below the farmhouse. Go through a gate and close it behind you. Join the D13 again.

(7) Continue uphill on the left-hand side and reach the Coll Palomeres crossroads (road, tracks, paths, GRP®, PR®).

No markings *

(8) Climb completely to the right, heading north, along a steep path that follows the ridge. Simply follow it with the fence on your right, climbing steeply to the high point at an elevation of 1173 metres. Vast panoramic views.
Then descend, still heading due north, for about a hundred metres. Keep the relay antenna in your sights.

(9) At an altitude of 1150 m, cross the fence via a removable section of the electric wire to reach a grassy track, which is much more comfortable. Descend to a flat area and a junction with a track coming from the right. Continue a little further and look for a steel gate on the right (Chemin Rural du retour).

(10) Continue a few metres along the track and climb to the left to the open area of the relay antenna at La Creu d'en Turon (the crossroads on the hill). There is a bench and a memorial stone on the left-hand side. Beautiful landscape to the west.
Recent directional signs (early December 2023).

Yellow/white and yellow markings

(11) Head north on a wide path, following a fence on your right. Much higher up, you will reach a flat area at Coll de Montportell (elevation 1176).

(12) Continue north on a steep path. The slope is steep. The path turns northeast and, after a final climb, arrives at the ruins of the Santa Anna dels Quatre Termes Chapel (altitude 1348). Vast 360° landscapes.

(13) This is a beautiful spot for a restorative break.
Turn back to the relay antenna at Creu d'en Turon, then return to the gate you saw on the way there.
Pay attention. Turn left at a post with the inscription: Chemin Rural (December 2023).

Yellow/white and yellow markings

(10) Follow the markings carefully, as they take you through private areas (pastures, tracks).
Go through the gate, taking care to close it behind you. Descend south-east along a narrow, sloping path. Further down, pass through a wet area with a very imposing fallen oak tree and join a track at a bend.

(14) Continue downhill to the left along the track, which joins another track. (Sign for St-Anne in the opposite direction on a tree on the right), join another track suitable for vehicles and follow it downhill to a crossroads a little further on. Continue south for 50 m and look for a left turn on a tree (sign: Le Mouché on the left side of the track to follow).

(15) Without crossing the stream, turn completely left onto this track until you reach a pretty wooden gate closing off the entrance to a property after 100 m.

(16) Turn right into the forest onto a faint path that leads to the D13.

(17) Follow it to the left, on the grassy verge, then further on, join the campsite car park (S/E).

Notes

During hunting season.
- I recommend a backpack cover or brightly coloured clothing when tackling this ridge from (8) to (10).
- You must be spotted by the hunters on duty and have permission to continue along this ridge.

The trail is marked except between (8) and (10).

Drinking water is available at the playground toilets in La Bastide and at the entrance to the municipal campsite (December 2023).

This is a mid-mountain area: bring rain gear, water, snacks, GPX route, description, map, GPS or Visorando app, camera, good walking shoes and a walking stick.

This hike can be shortened by not going to Santa Anna, with a direct return from (10).

It was perfect, just one small comment: the gate to look for on the way there is grey, not green...
Thank you
