The Combe de Curnier

This hike on the southern slope of Mont Ventoux, narrow, wooded and always chilly, carved out by capricious waters, leads to a vast panoramic view.

Description of the walk

Go to Bédoin, cross the village and take the Route du Mont Ventoux which leads to Chalet Reynard. About 200 m further on, turn left on "le Chemin de la Montagne" just before the petrol station "les Lavandes" and follow it until the car park "les Colombets", with signs to "Chambres d'hôtes de Curnier". The car park is located about 100 m after the guest houses.

(S) From the car park, climb the Combe de Curnier on the PR up to the top of the valley to reach a track.

(1) Turn right for a hundred meters then fork left to continue the long climb on the track that joins the Jas des Landérots.

(2) This sheep pen and the clearing offer a panoramic view over Bédoin and the entire valley. At this crossing point, take the GR91B to the left, in the direction of the Jas du Pié Gros. Stay on the main track that leads around the mountainside for approximately 1.5km.

(3) Once you have reached the Jas du Pié Gros, leave the GR to descend left on the PR in the direction of Replanas.

Nice walk to discover the combe. The part in the coomb was covered in water (5 to 10 cm).

I found the descent quite slippery, it was early July and we were very hot on the way back.

Very nice hike. The combe is exceptional and the two jas very bucolic. The descent from Mas Pié Gros is disappointing, however, as it is in direct sunlight and follows a wide stone path of little interest.

Few viewpoints
Relatively long hike (4h30 min. or even 5h including a few breaks) of moderate difficulty but not very interesting and hard on the knees on the way back.
The descent after point 3 is interminably long and over more or less slippery stones. Those with sensitive knees should expect to suffer a little on the way back, as there is little respite and few points of interest.
Bring a good litre of water per person in summer and hiking poles or Nordic walking poles to cushion the impact on the way down, or even to ensure a bit of balance on the gravel.

We followed the instructions as a family with 2 kids (8 and 10 years old). Beautifull path with nice small « combe » and beautiful views.
The « jas » has been renovated and looks good, nice resting point to sit enjoy a pauze.

Don't underestimate the average difficulty. Take poles and suitable hiking boots. I found this hike magnificent!

Lovely walk, sheltered from the wind on the way up when the route is shadier and well exposed to the wind on the way down. Lovely views over the valley and the Ventoux.

Apart from the combe and its lovely trickle of water, it's a tough climb and a tough descent.

A dry walk across the Combe in this dry month of July.

At point 1, turn right at the crossroads. At first, I saw the semblance of a path going straight up, but it took me a while, and a few scares, to realise that it wasn't, and to turn back.

The journey between the two jas was the most enjoyable part.

The descent and ascent (outside the combe), on the other hand, were a bit testing, due to the exposure to the sun and the lack of variety.

An unexpected and very pleasant hike in the Ventoux massif
We would have liked to have discovered it with a bit of water
Thanks to the author for this discovery

very much in the shade in the morning, so cold and damp, but quite amazing and great fun for children
On the other hand, the climb up to the jas Landerot is pretty tough and the stony descent quite painful.
Worth seeing ++.
