ACCESS:
From Saint-Joseph: Head towards Vincendo via the N2. After the sign for the town of Vincendo, continue on the N2 until the next roundabout. Take the first exit towards the Lycée de Vincendo. After passing the school, turn left at the first junction. Keep right at the next two junctions. At the fourth junction, turn left and continue to the end of the road. Before the end of the road, look for a no camping sign on the right.
From Saint-Philippe: Head towards Vincendo via the N2. After the sign for the town of Vincendo, continue on the N2 until you reach the roundabout in front of Vincendo High School. Take the third exit towards Vincendo High School. After passing the high school, turn left at the first intersection. Keep right at the next two intersections. At the fourth intersection, turn left and continue to the end of the road. Before the end of the road, look for a no camping sign on the right.
(S/E) Visit the Virgin Mary statue, the waterfall and the black sand beach at the end of the road before starting the hike, then return to the no camping sign. The discreet trail starts to the left of the sign. There will be few markings and signs, but the trail is clearly visible! It winds its way under the vacoas before quickly approaching the coast! It is then exposed for most of the hike! If the sea is rough, you can see the waves crashing against the jagged cliffs of the region. However, the route should be avoided in heavy swells!
The image of the raging sea is spectacular! There are also beautiful panoramic views of the wild south! You may even see a blowhole along the way if the sea is rough enough. The path is flat and winds its way through ancient volcanic slabs and rocks that glisten in the sun! The landscape changes completely when the path passes under a grove of casuarina trees! The path, which until then had been open, winds its way through a forest of low-altitude vegetation but still runs close to the coast. After a 30-minute walk, you will reach the viewpoint at Cap Jaune! This geological curiosity of the island is worth a detour and owes its name to the colour of the cliff, which is indeed yellow!
(1) Continue for a few metres uphill on the trail, then take the first trail on the left to reach the foot of Cap Jaune! The descent is steep and technical at times, requiring the use of ropes to facilitate progress. Fortunately, this is only for a short distance!
(2) If you enjoyed the view from this geological site, you'll enjoy being at the foot of this cliff even more! You feel very small when faced with this immense and incredible natural geological beauty! Amazement guaranteed!
Then return to the starting point (S/E).
a superb and splendid walk along this volcanic cliff to the viewpoint at Cap Jaune.
