Departure and return in front of Harreberg Town Hall. A few parking spaces are available.
(S/E) Pass to the right of the church and take the alley between the town hall and the church. Take the path opposite marked with a yellow disc. Leave a path on the right and continue.
(1) Ignore the path with the same markings that branches off to the right. Stay on the path that climbs slightly to the left.
(2) Turn left and cut across the forest slope for a few dozen metres to reach the village of Vieux Hommert. The slope is not very steep but easily accessible. At the edge of the forest, a small access path (an old path to the village) will make it easier for you to cross.
At the edge of the woods, cross the field opposite, heading south-east, to reach a small man-made cavity in a retaining wall. This is a small shelter whose purpose is unknown.
Then cross the meadow towards the south-west to discover the remains of the houses in the village, which was abandoned after the Thirty Years' War.
Retrace your steps to the access point you used earlier to descend to the path (please note, I recommend you return via the same route).
Turn left onto the path, right at the next intersection, then left again and continue for a few metres to reach the rock pile known as Les Siamois, which is clearly marked with arrows.
(3) Return to the unmarked path and turn left (with the Siamese behind you) towards the east. Continue straight ahead at the first fork, then turn right at the next intersection to reach a forest road (RF).
(4) Turn left and continue downhill to the tarmac road. Cross it, go downhill opposite and reach the small bridge at La Zorn.
(5) From here, the route is a little tricky! Continue straight ahead to reach a forest road.
(6) Turn right for a few dozen metres onto the RF (yellow cross markings) then take the path on the left to the next RF. Follow it to the right then turn left onto the path heading due north (yellow cross markings).
When you reach the oratory, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the village of Schaeferhof. Return to the path with your back to the oratory and take the path on the left (south-east) for a few metres, then turn right at the hairpin bend heading due west (yellow cross). Join the forest road.
(7) After about 100 metres, take the path on the left (marked with a yellow cross) to reach Heidenschloss. We recommend making the round trip to the rock because of the remarkable view of the valley, the cave dwellings and the surrounding villages.
Return via the path (yellow cross).
(8) After a few metres, take the path on your left towards Geisterfelsen or Rocher du Fantôme (blue ring markings; do not take the blue ring at Heidenschloss as this is the return route for the Baldur circular). Stay on this path (marked with a blue ring). This path runs along the rocky cliff of the Geisterfels, a magnificent rocky escarpment made of pink Vosges sandstone.
(9) Leave the path and take the unmarked path on the right. Exit the woods and turn right heading south to cross the field.
(10) A few metres from the road, take the path on the left (blue ring). Head towards Rocher du Corbeaux on the right.
(11) Turn right onto the path towards the hamlet of Petit Ballerstein. Join the tarmac road (Rue du Ballerstein) and continue straight ahead. Stay on the same street, turn right at the fork, pass a path on the left and then a road on the right to reach the intersection between Rue du Ballestein and Rue de la Zorn at house number 24A.
(12) Head west on the right (hairpin bend on Rue de la Zorn, red-white-red rectangular marker) to the hamlet of Ententhal. Cross the hamlet and rejoin the path. Go straight ahead at the three successive crossroads.
(13) Take the path on your left (blue disc) to reach the Jaegerhof forest house.
Retrace your steps along the path (red-white-red markings) you left earlier and turn left.
(14) At the crossroads, take the path marked with a blue disc on your right. Follow this beautiful path down to the ruins of the old Kleinmuhl mill. Continue along the path opposite (marked with a yellow triangle). Pass two paths on your right and you will come to a T-junction.
(15) Turn left onto the path marked with a red disc. Cross the Zorn and climb up towards the Table de la Paie.
Cross the small tarmac road, turn right and then immediately left onto the path (red disc) which climbs towards the Harreberg plateau. Be careful, there is a 200m climb over 1.2km. Stay on this path (marked with a red disc, follow the markings and you can't go wrong) which leads to the Schanzkopf forest road.
(16) Turn right and then immediately take the path on your left (unmarked). Leave the path on your right and continue along this beautiful little path to reach the village of Harreberg and the car park next to the church and town hall.
