Exploring the Walscheid area

(S/E) With your back to the car park, cross the Route d’Alsace, follow it for a few metres to the right, then turn into the^first street on the left (Red Triangle markings) which joins the Route du Donon. Follow it along a small path on the right to reach a square with tables and benches in a bend. Cross the D96 with care to follow the path opposite. After about a hundred metres, turn right and follow the gently ascending path (marked with a Red Triangle) to reach the entrance to Saint-Léon shortly after the Memorial.

(1) Stay on the path on the left (still marked with Red Triangles). Keep left; further on, you’ll cross a path marked with Red Rectangles and White Triangles, join a forest track and then leave it very quickly to the right. Keep left on this same path until you reach the Col du Bloecherplatz.

(2) At the pass, follow the path climbing up opposite (marked with Red Triangles) towards La Roche des Fantômes. Then stay on this same path towards La Croix de Haspach. Reach the start of a path on the left, about a hundred metres before the Route Forestière de la Croix de Haspach.

(3) Follow this path which climbs to the left (marked with red and yellow rings) and goes round the Peugstein to the east. It runs alongside the Hirschthal Forest Road for a while before joining a wider path.

(4) Follow this path to the right to reach a small road; follow it for a few metres, then take the^second path which, further on, branches off to the left (marked with Red Rings and Yellow Rings) to reach Hohwalschplatz, passing several beautiful rock faces.

(5) Continue along the path opposite towards the Rocher du Hohwalsch (marked with red-white-red Red Rectangles), then on to the Eckfelsen. Then continue all the way to the left on this same path to reach the Petit Hohwalsch Forest Track. Follow it to the right for a few hundred metres. Then leave it to follow the path on the right again (marked with a Red Rectangle crossed with a White Rectangle) which leads to the Gallo-Roman cemetery.

(6) After your visit, continue along the path that branches off to the left to reach the Croix du Beimbach.

(7) Follow the forest track to the left (marked with a red ring and a yellow disc) to the Hengstbourg Cross.

(8) Take the path branching off to the left (marked with a Red Ring and Yellow Disc) which crosses the Hengstbourgthal, heading due east, and emerges from the forest.

(9) Continue down the small tarmac road (Chemin de Dabo) to the junction, with a cross on the hill to the right and the Étang de la Bièvre on the left.

(10) Turn left into Rue du Plan d’Eau, then immediately right and go round the pond to return to the car park (S/E).
