Park in the hamlet of Grange du Bois to the west of Solutré-Pouilly.
(S/E) Leave the Grange du Bois gîte car park and take the small road heading north downhill. It soon becomes a wide dirt track, level with a pretty chapel (now privately owned).
(1) At a fork in the road, turn right (signposted "Roche de Solutré"). Then, very quickly, you take the path to the left, which leads into a field.
(2) When your path reaches a wide track, turn right to quickly reach a small road, which you also turn right onto.
(3) At the car park, turn right onto a small path alongside the road, which heads towards the rock.
From this point on, you're on the tourist route. You're not alone anymore... Everything has been done to ensure that you reach the summit of La Roche without a hitch... The climb is steady.
(4) At the crossroads with the path to the right towards the Roche de Vergisson (signposted "circuit des 3 Roches"), which you'll take on the way back, continue straight on to reach the Roche de Solutré.
(5) To return, take the same path that brought you to the summit (you have no other choice anyway... except to abseil down...).
(4) Continue your descent northwards on the left.
Be careful! in wet weather, the limestone rocks can be quite slippery. This is the only difficulty of the walk.
At a fork, turn left (signposted "Circuit des 3 Roches").
(6) At the end of the wood, you come to a wide track, which you take downhill to the right.
Two bends further on, as the yellow markings ask you to turn right, turn left onto a wide track through the vines. It heads towards the hamlet of Les Chancerons.
(7) When you reach the hamlet, you'll see a 'menhir' (Breton for "standing stone"). Turn left and you're soon at a complex crossroads. Ignore the path on the left, heading up the hill, and take the next one. It's a wide, beautiful track: la Voie Romaine. In places, you can see traces of fossils in the limestone). Follow the yellow markings, mostly on the ground.
Turn right at the fork.
(3) Once you've reached the car park you passed on the outward journey, take the same route back to the start of the walk.
Take the small road on the right. At the next bend, take the path on the left.
(2) At the crossroads, take the left-hand path up to the Grange du Bois (S/E).
