Description of the walk

Start from the car park at the village hall (40 spaces).

(S/E) Head down towards the village centre. Turn right onto the Place de l’Église, walk past the church forecourt and go down the street to the right of the war memorial. At the first path, leave the road and follow it to the next road (cemetery on the right). When you reach the crossroads, turn left once and then right once.
Follow the small road.

(1) Turn right onto the first dirt track (ignore the post with the marker cross). At the top of the track, turn right and head down to the village of La Motte. Do not enter the hamlet, but immediately turn left onto the hairpin-bend stone path before the well.

(2) Walk past the Moulin Buteau and continue to the next junction (the paths on the left are barely marked), then turn right. When you reach the tarmac section, take the path on the right – half grass, half tarmac – to reach the junction with the D6 road.

(3) Cross the road and follow it to reach the hamlet of Chappe. Pass a path on your right, then a small tarmac track. In the hamlet, turn right (towards the fire hydrant) onto the small track leading to the Source de la Pisserote. Pass the pond on your left.

(4) Turn round and head back towards the hamlet. Follow the track on the right up to the hamlet of Montreparé. When you reach the farm on the left, take the path (just past a house) that branches off to the right and follow it to the junction with the D7.

(5) Follow this road for 70 metres, then take the dirt track that branches off at the junction with the Route de Perreuse. At this point, you are 600 metres there and back from the Source du Loing (a short detour that’s well worth taking).
This track will take you to a crossroads where four paths meet.

(6) The St Andrew’s cross will indicate that you are on the right track. Turn right and head back down to the starting village. At the Stop sign, turn right, then right again to reach the starting car park (S/E).

Notes

A lovely, sunny walk.

Worth a visit

Don’t miss the church at Sainte-Colombe-sur-Loing.
(4) Washhouse and spring on the left; the ‘Bouillon’ emerging from the hillside at the foot of the oak tree after a spell of rain; and on the right, 50 metres away, the Source de la Vigueur. These waters form the Ruisseau de la Pisserotte, which flows into the Loing, which in turn feeds into the Seine.
