Description of the walk

Start from the car park at Pilâtre de Rozier Secondary School, Rue Pierre de Coubertin.

(S/E) Facing the secondary school, turn left onto Rue Pierre de Coubertin, continue to the end of this street and turn right onto Rue du Temple, which passes in front of the cemetery. It continues as a footpath.

(1) Turn left onto the small path, then right onto the first path marked on the map as “Côte en Vaux”, and join a wider track. Turn right again.

(2) Turn left onto the path that enters the forest, and join theGR®5, marked with red and white stripes. Cross theGR®5and take the path directly opposite.

(3) Turn left onto the path leading downhill. Turn right, then left, to reach the wayside cross at the junction with the Route de Gorze. Do not follow this road, but take the small path leading downhill to the left of the wayside cross (228m). Follow it for about ten metres and turn left again onto a small path. Carry on to another wayside cross (230m). Go straight on, then turn left to reach a wash house.

(4) Walk past this washhouse and take the first street on the right.

(5) Turn right onto theGR®5, which leads downhill, and join Rue de la Fontaine. Turn left onto Rue Bernard Toussaint

(6) Take the path on your left, still marked with red and white stripes (GR®5). Walk past the ruins of a Roman reservoir and the aqueduct dating from the 2nd century.

(7). Continue along the red and white marked path. Turn left, then right, following the signposted path to reach Rue de la Ferrée.

(8) Turn left. This street turns into a narrow path. Continue straight ahead along this path.

(1) Turn right and head back to the car park by following the path you took at the start in the opposite direction (S/E).

Worth a visit

Between points (6) and (8), take a few moments to read the information about the Roman reservoir and aqueduct dating from the 2nd century AD.
Depending on the season, you’ll only have to reach out to enjoy a variety of fruits in the often-abandoned orchards (Please respect those that are still being looked after)

Hello,
same comment as before. At point No. 1 (Carrefour de la boucle), the path downhill to the left is impassable (nettles, brambles, vegetation, etc.). Same detour via the path on the right, then left to reach point No. 2. On the way back, at the crossroads after point 8, we turned right until we reached the road and then followed the road to return to the car park. 8.45 km and 2 hours 11 minutes walking at a leisurely pace, admiring the Moselle from the last arch and picking mirabelle plums, blackberries and grapes along the route.
Thank you

Hello
Thank you for sharing.
There’s an issue at point 1: the route is supposed to run alongside a fence with sheep, but the path has become impassable, with mud and vegetation hindering progress. Using the map and GPS as a guide, at point 1 I didn’t follow the marked route but carried on uphill, then turned left to reach point 2 directly.
On the way back, at the junction after point 8, I turned right towards the road and then followed the road back to the car park.
I’d recommend parking near Point 8 or somewhere else along the circular route.
Otherwise, it was a pleasant walk with no major difficulties apart from a few muddy sections – but that’s to be expected in winter! Through woodland on the way out, orchards on the way back.

The loop took 2 hours.

Route completed on 14 July 2022 in 1 hour 51 minutes.
A lovely ride, with clear instructions and a well-marked route.
One minor drawback is the section at the start, just after waypoint 1 (which you return to at the end), which can be quite tricky to navigate at times, but apart from that, a lovely walk with some lovely views!
Thanks ;-)
