Description of the walk

This hike can start at the hiker's choice from:
1. (S/E) Niederhausbergen, at the small car park at the Saint-Antoine Chapel.
2. (3) Mundolsheim: Rue du Fort Ducrot, angle car park along the street.
3. (10) Lampertheim: main street, opposite the cemetery at the village exit towards Vendenheim.

It is marked along the entire length of the Anneau Bleu. The time indicated does not include visits or breaks.

(S/E) Starting from Niederhausbergen, turn right up Rue du Fort Foch, then take the sunken path through an ancient forest and a passageway carved out by time, now an access route to the cycle path of the forts that formed Strasbourg's defensive belt during the 1870 war.

(1) Once you reach this path, turn right and walk along the left-hand side of Fort Foch, which now houses the primatology centre (not open to visitors). Continue straight ahead until you reach the access road to the arboretum. Turn left towards the Gloeckelsberg arboretum.

(2) Go through the fence to begin a circular path along the central path, which is lined with information panels. It leads to a gazebo in a pleasant clearing that has been converted into a picnic area with tables and benches.

(2) Leaving the arboretum, take the path on the left and continue straight ahead along a small grassy path that leads to Rue du Fort Ducros (starting point 2).

(3) Continue to the left, passing in front of the entrance to the fort. (Visits are possible on certain days; allow 1 hour).

(4) Go around the fort on the right, following the moat (on your left), and after 200 metres, continue to the left to reach the opposite end.

(5) Go down the fairly steep path on the right. Take care with young children, especially if the path is wet or muddy. The path heads south-west and then, near a right-hand bend, leads to a small level path.

(6) Continue to the right. When you leave the woods, pass between a small group of houses and continue along Rue Bruehl to reach the D863 (Rue du Général de Gaulle).

(7) Cross the main road at the pedestrian crossing and continue opposite on a grassy path alongside the last houses in Mundolsheim. Join the cycle path linking Mundolsheim to Lampertheim.

(8) Turn left, passing several horse parks. At the T-junction, turn right heading north. After about 300 m, the path turns left and crosses the bridge over the Souffel river.

(9) Continue to the right. There is a small children's park with benches and tables where you can take a short break. After about 150 metres, turn right again, passing under a gate, then turn left again and continue for 150 metres to reach the main street of Lampertheim at the cemetery (starting point 3).

(10) Turn right, staying alert and keeping to the side of the road, as this road is very busy at certain times of the day. After about 100 metres, turn right onto a path and follow it to a water pumping station with a small house, the whole area being fenced off, and walk alongside this facility.

(11) Opposite the entrance, take the path facing south, walk alongside the tennis courts and then the Climont area and arrive at Rue du Climont, which you should follow to the right for about 50 metres.

(12) Take the first street on the left, Rue de la Liberté, go down it to reach and cross (pedestrian crossing) Rue du Général Leclerc. Continue along Rue de l'École (pedestrian street) and walk past Villa Ravel (Mundolsheim music school), then Groupe Scolaire Leclerc and Mundolsheim municipal gymnasium to reach Rue du Professeur Philippe Bellocq.

(13) Turn right, after about 50 metres turn right, then left. Follow this street for about 100 metres and first turn left then right to reach Rue de la Souffel, follow it to the left until you reach the small wooden bridge over the river. Cross it and go up this gentle slope that runs alongside the cemetery to reach Rue de Strasbourg.

(14) Follow it to the left, pass a crossroads, then under afirst overhead power line, then a roundabout. Immediately after, turn onto the small path on the right (under thesecond overhead power line) which runs alongside a new neighbourhood to reach a relaxation area and a well-shaded playground. The path leads to the D63, opposite a pedestrian crossing.

(15) Cross the D63 safely and, turning right then left, take the path for 600 metres; it will take you to Niederhausbergen at a small roundabout decorated with flowers and seasonal themes.

(16) Turn left for a few metres and then right just before you reach the bus stop (Rue des Verdiers). At the end of this street, turn left onto Rue de Bischheim.

(17) Turn right, continue straight ahead and pass in front of the town hall. At the traffic lights, continue straight ahead to find the small chapel on your right (S/E).

A lovely walk through the fields and up Hausbergen hill.
Even though I’m from Strasbourg, this is a place I’d never been to before.
Stunning views of Strasbourg.
For my part, I clocked up nearly a kilometre less for the journey.
