Starting at the former Wächtersbach earthenware factory, the trail leads through meadows and woodland along the Bracht, gently uphill to Hellstein and past Eisenhammer Castle, continuing upwards to the Spielberger Platte, an open mountain plateau offering sweeping and impressive views. The route continues along a scenic high-altitude path to Spielberg and back through woods and meadows to Schlierbach. There, the trail passes workers’ and managers’ houses as well as typical 19th-century industrial architecture, which impressively defines the unique character of this route.
This Spessart trail is particularly appealing to anyone wishing to experience the landscape, history and regional industrial heritage in combination. Along the route, historic sites, distinctive buildings and sections of the trail set amidst nature alternate. Information boards bring the history of industrialisation to life, with a regional focus.
