Trails and Belvédère de l'Eyrieux

The start of the route is flat on the Dolce Via, then climbs up paths and tracks through old terraced farms above the Eyrieux Valley. On the way, there is a short tarmac detour to the Belvédère de l'Eyrieux to enjoy the superb view.
After passing two well-restored hamlets, a pleasant descent takes you to a beautiful little waterfall before returning to Moulinon.

Description of the walk

Start at Le Moulinon in Saint-Sauveur-de-Montagut. Park in the car park on the right at the edge of the D20, at the exit of the village, towards the village (restaurant nearby).

(S/E) With your back to the car park, turn left and follow the D20 without crossing it. After 150 metres, turn left after No. 415, following the signs for Aquarock Aventure. Cross a very narrow stone bridge and continue up to a crossroads.

"Yellow-white signage, old and not very visible at intersections."

(1) Take the tarmac road opposite towards the adventure park (ignore the road climbing up to the left, which will be the return route, and the road descending to the right). Continue along this flat road, which is the former railway line now converted into the Dolce Via (cycle path). Take care as this section of road is shared with cars (access to the adventure park).
At a fork, continue straight ahead towards Aquarock Aventure, pass it and arrive at a crossroads just before the barrier restricting access to the cycle path.

(2) Turn left and take the road that climbs steeply. At the next crossroads, the slope levels out; turn right and you will soon reach a property. Turn left between the two buildings (dead end). After passing the last houses in the hamlet of La Ville, the tarmac ends and gives way to a pleasant path. At the next intersection (large blue cedar tree), turn right and continue for a few metres until you reach the signpost for La Maisonnette.

Yellow signpost

(3) Turn right onto the path that climbs up to the D2 towards the Belvédère. Take the road on the right and descend carefully to the Belvédère de l'Eyrieux.

(4) Return to the Maisonnette junction.

"Yellow-white markings, old and not very visible at intersections."

(3) Turn right onto the path climbing towards Saint-Michel de Ch. (as indicated on the signs). This path was once used to access the fields, now abandoned, but the remains of the paved slanting street, low walls and chestnut trees are proof that this area was once productive.
Rejoin the D2 at a ruin. Cross the road with caution and continue opposite on the path (quite steep at first). Continue climbing until you reach the tarmac road to Conjols. Turn right towards the hamlet and follow it along the bottom. At the end of the tarmac road, continue straight ahead on a grassy path until you reach the corner of a large property (Conjols signpost).

Red and whiteGR®427signposting

(5) Turn completely left towards Saint-Michel de Ch. (as indicated on the signs) to go around the hamlet at the top this time. Return to the tarmac and follow the road to the next junction. Stay on the left-hand lane to reach a fairly large crossroads at the La Vignasse signpost. Continue straight ahead (ignore the two roads on the right and a path on the left) and head towards the hamlet of Les Buffes. Go to the junction at the end of the hamlet to find the signpost of the same name.

"Yellow-white markings, old and not very visible at intersections"

(6) Turn left onto the D2 and continue for about 10 metres until you see a small, barely visible path in the grass on your right. Leave the road and descend to the right onto this path.
You will come to a wider path; follow it to the right. Just after this, a vague path branches off to the right towards a water catchment (not marked on the map). Ignore it and continue on the main path. About 200 metres further on, at a crossroads near an old cherry tree, continue straight ahead and enter the forest for a pleasant, shaded descent. You will come to a ford.

(7) Before crossing, go back and forth to the right to see the pretty little waterfall. Once back on the trail, cross the stream and continue downhill to reach a small paved road (Chemin du Moulinon).

(8) Follow it downhill to the left. Before the first houses in Issouans, ignore a turn-off on the left and continue along the road in the same direction until you reach the junction you passed on the way there.

(1) Continue straight ahead, cross the bridge, then turn right to return to the car park (S/E).

A beautiful hike, well described. With the GPX file and the directions, we had no trouble following the planned route. The road at the start is a bit congested with bikes and a few cars, but as soon as you reach the trail, you find peace and quiet and birdsong. The viewpoint offers a superb panorama and the trails provide a beautiful glimpse of the old terraces where nature has reclaimed its rights.

Superb hike!
Magnificent views.
Even though we were familiar with the viewpoint, the round trip was well worth it. A little steep at the end of the climb, but not too difficult.
The last part of the hike is a gentle descent and very pleasant and bucolic.
Thanks for this great suggestion.
I highly recommend it.

A very beautiful hike on 29 March above the Eyrieux. At number 6, we continued straight ahead on the Chemin des Issarts to descend to St Sauveur via La Grangette and Chaland. We returned to Le Moulinon via the old railway line.

A very beautiful hike, although a bit challenging with a significant elevation gain. We enjoyed the magnificent views and frequent shade.

a beautiful route that took us to the viewpoint, where we could admire the valley. The walk past the waterfall was also very pleasant. Thank you for this route, which allowed us to discover the region.

A pleasant, varied hike offering beautiful views.
The only hesitation was at Les Buffes, where you have to turn 180 degrees to the left onto the D2 before finding the small grassy path ten metres further on the right. The GPX track is very reliable.

Nice hike
The description and route on the map are very reliable.
The yellow and white markings between Dolce Via and Conjols have been redone and are very visible.
At Les Buffes, the small, "hardly visible" path is easy to find. Follow it until it widens. This is the only place where we hesitated a little, as we couldn't find the vague path (not to be taken according to the description) that branches off to the right towards a water catchment. We also didn't spot the old cherry tree. In fact, you need to cross the meadow slowly along this wide path until you reach the forest. At the entrance to the forest, there is a vague path that branches off to the left. Ignore it and descend to the right into the forest. Between Les Buffes and the entrance to the forest, there are no visible markings. There are a few traces of old yellow and white markings on the descent.
The waterfall was flowing nicely; it's a place worth discovering.
We completed the walk in three hours, walking at a leisurely pace but skipping the return trip to the viewpoint. We were already familiar with the viewpoint and the weather was a bit overcast.

A lovely walk with beautiful autumn colours. The weather was perfect too! Very good descriptions. There were two adults and two teenagers in our group. It took us just over three hours, including a picnic break. Perfect!

We set off at 9 a.m., taking our time and snapping lots of photos.
The spring flowers make this hike colourful and fragrant, with the scent of acacia wafting through the air. The unobstructed view from the lookout point is magnificent, with the Eyrieux river rushing through the valley below. We cross abandoned terraced gardens. It's hard to imagine how difficult it must have been to cultivate these slopes, even though the location is exceptional. We skirt around the cute little hamlet of Conjol before reaching the highest point of our hike and beginning the descent through wildflowers and tall grass, which feels like we're in the Alps. It's a completely different landscape from the first part of our walk. The only slight downside at this point was that the next sign, "Just after, a vague path branches off to the right towards a water catchment (not marked on the map)", made us hesitate. We followed the path (which wasn't vague at all) to the right and began the descent into the forest without seeing any water catchment, but with a "vague" path on the left... Everything turned out fine in the end, as the descent was perfect, in the coolness of the woods, punctuated by the passage of daring mountain bikers. We stopped for a picnic at the foot of a charming and refreshing waterfall, much appreciated by our dog, who was able to cool her paws
We arrived at the car park at 2pm after a very enjoyable hike. Thank you, Slinky, for taking the time to detail this hike for our enjoyment!

We set off at 9:30 a.m. The weather is fine and the view from the viewpoint is beautiful. We descend by the same route, climb up to Conjols, a lovely little hamlet, then Les Buffes, and enjoy a pleasant descent back to Sauveur de Montagut, where there is a large car park. There are four of us: Monique, Jeanine, Maurice and me. The odometer reads 10.37 km Elevation gain: +435 m, elevation loss: -415 m, two climbs, duration: 4 hours 26 minutes. A big thank you to Slinky for this hike. See you soon on our beautiful trails.

Hike done on the morning of Sunday, 12 July. Almost the entire climb was in the shade when we left at 8 a.m., and the descent was through the trees: perfect. Very beautiful views. Three hours and 17 minutes of hiking with quite a few stops to take in the scenery. Thank you.

A beautiful, varied hike (alternating between tarmac, forest paths and viewpoints) that allows you to discover the Pays de l'Ayrieux. The viewpoint is also worth a detour. I would only advise against it if you are in a hurry, but bear in mind that the view is interesting.
As for the walking time, I don't know if I went fast, but I followed the GPS route and did it in just under three hours.

A superb 4-hour trip
We start by walking along the river, accompanied by canoes
Beautiful view as we climb. Don't hesitate to take the detour to the lookout point. Superb view. A must-do.
The return trip is shaded.
The icing on the cake: ice cream at ADELICE on the left after crossing the bridge on the way back, then immediately left after the small car park in the old workshops. A real treat.
