Description of the walk

To get to the starting point, drive through the village of Urbeis (coming from Villé) and head towards the Col d'Urbeis. As you climb the pass, turn right towards Le Climont. It is a very small, winding road. At the end of the climb, you will have a view of Climont (a mountain with a flat summit) and you will see a green hut on your right.
50 metres after this hut, there is a forest track leading up into the woods on your right. You can park here.

(S/E) You are at the start of the forest path that starts at the edge of the D156 road.
On the path, with your back to the road, follow the yellow signposts and the direction "Les murailles". You will see yellow signposts and "Sentier des poussettes" (pushchair path) signposts throughout this walk. The path climbs slightly.

After 100 metres, you will pass above a green house located below the first fork in the road. Turn right. You are also on the Wurzel trail, which is organised every year in the Villé Valley. You will then arrive at a junction with a tarmac road.

(1) Continue straight ahead on this road, following the double markings towards Bilstein, and walk for about 1.5 km.

(2) At the junction, leave the tarmac road and continue straight ahead, following the yellow signposts on a small ridge.

(3) You will come to a crossroads with a reservoir on your left. Continue along this road, following the yellow signposts. Immediately after, you will come to another crossroads. Take the path on the right that descends, following the signs for "Bilstein" and "Murailles" (yellow signposts).
Further on, on your left, you will see a plot planted exclusively with birch trees.

(4) Take the path on the right, which descends perpendicular to the road, to see Bilstein Castle, which stands about a hundred metres further on. Be careful in wet weather, as there is a small wooden bridge just before the castle walls, which is extremely slippery! It is passable, but if you are with children or even a dog, it is best to be cautious and take the lead.

(5) Retrace your steps.

(4) Turn left, following the yellow signposts towards Charbes. At the first crossroads, turn left onto the tarmac road, following the yellow signposts towards Climont-ferme.

(3) Immediately after, at the reservoir junction, leave the road and turn right onto the path marked with a yellow sign.

(2) Continue straight ahead on the paved road.

(1) Turn right off the road and follow the yellow signposts until you reach your vehicle (S/E).

An excellent route for a family outing. Access to the castle requires a little caution for younger children, but there are no complaints about the rest of the itinerary.

An easy and enjoyable hike. We went a little further than planned to the mine, which is 20 minutes from the ruins.

A pleasant hike, easy to do with children. Detailed description. We did it with children aged 7 and 3, without any particular difficulty, except for the climb to the ruins, which is a little steep.
We did the hike on 22 July and didn't meet anyone else.

A very pleasant route, well signposted and not very busy as the weather was not great.
We did this route as a couple, but it was very easy
with a pushchair except for the last part to reach the castle.
