Park in the car park of the Milhars community hall.
The entire route is very well marked, with occasional signs for the Bonnan Valley.
Yellow markings - Vallée de Bonnan
(S/E) On the D600, with your back to the community hall, turn left towards Place de la Mairie. In front of the community café, cross the road and turn right. This uphill street passes two stone calvaries.
(1) At the third wrought-iron cross with a broken left branch, turn left towards Bournazel and pass the farm. In front of the water catchment, veer right and climb towards Cantegrel. Go through a gate and close it behind you. The path winds its way to Pech Busque.
(2) At elevation 349, ignore the path coming from the right and continue climbing, crossing Grézelles Basses.
(3) Turn left onto the tarmac road. At the T-junction, there are two PR® signs opposite. Follow the signs for Vallée de Bonnan on the right, heading south then south-west. Pass Grézelles Hautes. Cross Pézatgé. Approach Les Fontanelles. You have now reached the highest point of the route.
(4) Turn right to walk between Les Fontanelles and Les Peyrouses. Pass elevation 443 and descend about 300 metres. Pay attention to the markings.
(5) Before Viou Noble, turn right. Pass a crossroads, continuing north-northwest. You will reach another crossroads at 350m.
(6) Continue descending north towards the ruins of La Forêt. Cross a meadow after this hamlet. The trail follows a wide curve to the left at the edge of the forest and descends further. After passing the first hairpin bend to the right, go through a gate. At the hairpin bend to the left, cross a ford at the foot of large granite rocks.
(7) At the T-junction with a wide track, turn right. The track passes in front of the ruins of the Madeleine Chapel and sarcophagus. Continue along the almost flat path to the bridge crossing the Bonnan Stream.
(8) At the trail signposts, follow the PR® Vallée de Bonnan trail to the left and cross the bridge. Continue to the right towards the petrified waterfall. In summer, the waterfall is dry, but in winter, the spring flows abundantly or is covered with stalactites in case of frost. It is possible to walk up to its source.
(9) Tufa waterfall. Continue along the stream until you reach the next bridge and cross it. Note, just before the bend towards the bridge, a huge, centuries-old elm tree on the right.
(10) At the T-junction, turn left. The wide dirt track leads to the tarmac road.
(11) Continue along the road uphill opposite and stay on this road to find the white wrought iron cross from the outward journey.
(1) Retrace your steps to return to the car park (S/E).
