Description of the walk

From Saint-Laurent-en-Grandvaux, take the D146 towards Ravilloles, then turn left halfway towards Prénovel onto the D28, then the D232. Park at Prénovel Town Hall in Nanchez.

(S/E) Opposite the town hall, turn right onto the D308E1, then left onto the D232 at the roundabout. Quickly (70 m) take the road leading down to the right (a track called Les Janiers, lined with a few houses) as far as La Vigne. Ignore the first junction; at the second, turn right and then keep left straight on until you reach the village boundary. You’ll come to a crossroads at a place called La Vigne.

(1) Continue along a good dirt track. Turn left to reach a Y-junction, after the sewage treatment plant.

(2) Turn right and head for the Pont des Janiers. The track crosses the Leat de Nanchez and climbs up to Cotat Bossu. You’ll come to a bend on the right.

(3) Turn left. Following this grassy ridge, the path leads to the peat bog. Turn right onto the boardwalk, following a winding path to simply soak up the atmosphere and discover, by reading the signposts marking the trail, some of the secrets of the Nanchez peat bog.

(4) At La Croisée des Leats, continue along a path that climbs up the left bank of the river. Cross another footbridge near the confluence of the Nanchez and the Ruisseau de Trémontagne to reach a road at Le Pontet.

(5) Follow the road to the right for 150 metres, then turn left up to the viewpoint overlooking the valley.

(6) Return via the same route to Le Pontet, then to La Croisée des Leats.

(4) Take the path on the right and cross the Nanchez once more. From the footbridge, follow the path on the left until you reach a track junction.

(7) Keep to the left at all times to reach the Pont des Janiers

(2) Return to the starting point by following the path in the opposite direction to the one taken on the way there (S/E).

A lovely viewpoint and footpath running alongside the peat bog – a great way to discover the plants and learn about how the bog was formed.
