Description of the walk

White-yellow markings

(S/E) Rocles church. Follow the sign for "Tour de Brison", Chemin de la Croze, a paved mule track that climbs between low walls. Further on, it joins a tarmac road which you follow uphill.

(1) Ignore the paths branching off to the right; continue along the tarmac road towards Beaumont.

(2) At the fork, do not take the Nouzaret road that descends to the right, but continue on the slightly uphill path to the left. 100 metres further on, leave the tarmac road and turn left towards Le Perrier and Tour de Brisons, taking an uphill forest road through pine and chestnut trees.

(3) Join the tarmac road again at a fork; take the road marked Route des Brison uphill to the right. 50 m further on, at a cross, take the Route du Loup (tarmac) to the right.

(4) Carrefour du Loup du Perrier: leave the tarmac road and take a forest road that climbs diagonally to the right.

(5) Small pass of Berle: somewhat confusing crossroads. Follow the path that climbs steeply to the left, towards Largentière, following the white-yellow and yellow-red markings ofthe GRP® Tour de Tanargue. (Do not take the forest road that descends to the right, nor the path that goes straight down towards Beaumont, marked in white and yellow.)

Climb among the chestnut trees, then out into the open. The climb becomes very steep on exposed rock. Finally, you will walk among large rocks before reaching the summit.

(6) Tour de Brison: large, flat, wooded summit; magnificent 360° view; two orientation tables. Mont Ventoux in the distance.

Turn back to Loup du Perrier. Some may find the steep descent on bare rock impressive.

(4) Descend a path that branches off to the right. It joins the tarmac road (Route du Loup) at the village of Le Perrier.

(7) In a sharp right-hand bend, in front of the last house in the village of Le Perrier, take a sharp left turn onto a dirt road. Descend through the chestnut trees.

(8) Village of Leyval: enter the village on the right, descending at a right angle. At the bottom of the village, turn left. At the exit of the village, a stony path climbs to the left of the road.

Forest of holm oaks and pines. At a small pass, there is an interesting cross marked with the year 1780 and a fleur-de-lis.

(9) Go around the hamlet of L'Adreyt on the left, then take the forest road downhill to the left, which becomes tarmac.
After the hamlet of Les Pradettes, at a bend in the road, turn left uphill to reach Rocles and the Church of Rocles at (S/E).

A beautiful hike done in early September. No one else on the trail! The mileage is exactly as indicated by the author; my app showed 8.44 km at the end of the hike. However, the elevation gain seems exaggerated to me; it was 400 m for me?
Admittedly, reaching the rock can be difficult for those who are not used to it, but it's not rock climbing! You need to use your hands and have good shoes, and the "tricky" section is only about 50 metres long. I posted a photo of this section to give a better idea (awaiting approval).
Thank you to the author "Shapiro" for taking the time to create this page.

The final climb (and after the descent) to the Tour de Brison is very steep. Avoid if the rocks are wet (risk of falling).

Having visited the Tour de Brison with Robert Brugere, I recommend doing this hike during Heritage Days to gain access to the top of the tower.

At the foot of the Tour de Brison, the climb over the rocks (5) is more like rock climbing, and this section is strongly discouraged for people who are prone to vertigo.
