Description of the walk

The walk begins behind the Maison de la Nature et de l’Environnement in Périgny-sur-Yerres. This visitor centre, leisure and information hub aims to foster connections between people and nature. The surrounding area is particularly well-suited for picnics.

(S/E) At the first information sign on the path, take the track bordered by hedgerows and cross the Domaine de Saint-Leu, an agricultural estate consisting exclusively of market gardens. Cut across the access road to the estate. Over a distance of about 850 metres, discover the various vegetable crops on either side, planted according to the seasons either in open ground or sheltered under tunnel greenhouses. You will come to the first greenhouse.

(1) Carry on to the next one, marked by the third sign.

(2) Carry on.

(3) At the end of this straight stretch, turn right onto the path that runs past a greenhouse. Further on, after about 200 metres, the path leads onto Rue de la Fosse.

(4) Turn left, then, 100 metres further on, continue right along this street. This takes you to the Domaine de Rosebrie in Mandres-les-Roses, a former horticultural estate, now largely converted into market gardens. You will reach the sixth sign.

(5) Continue along the path. Turn right at No. 11bis, onto the path running alongside a former rose grower’s farm, until you reach the junction 200 metres further on with La Végétale. A path specifically designed for soft mobility, this section follows the old railway line used until the20th century by the Train des Roses, which transported the local floral produce to Paris every day.

(6) Continue straight ahead then turn left. At the entrance, the traditional educational farm is housed in the former Mandres station. Open mainly to school groups and leisure centres, it offers an insight into farming and cultivation activities.

(7) Keep going straight on. You will then come to a sign.

(8) Go straight ahead. Enjoy the rural surroundings of La Végétale for 750 metres.

(9) Then leave the route by turning left onto Rue Auguste Dupin. On the Domaine de Roseval, there is another horticultural estate at 12 Rue Auguste Dupin: the Grand Paris Sud Est Avenir Floral and Arboricultural Production Centre. You can also visit the Mandres-les-Roses Departmental Nursery, located behind Rue du Champ de l’Alouette.

(10) Keep going straight. At the end of Rue Auguste Dupin, turn right onto Rue François Coppée until you reach the junction. Go round the roundabout and take the second exit onto Chemin de Yerres à Brie, which is closed to vehicles by a green barrier.

(11) After 200 metres, at signpost 13, after the last house on your left, take the footpath leading onto Rue René Thibault. Turn left onto this street and continue straight on for 450 metres along Ruelle des Champs to reach the centre of Mandres-les-Roses.

(12) Turn left onto Rue du Général Leclerc. As you pass, take in the numerous courtyards with their old-style houses, scattered on either side of the shopping street. As you walk up the street, do pop into the grounds of the Ferme de Monsieur on your left to admire the buildings and the dovecote. Owned inthe 18th century by the king’s brother and future Louis XVIII, it now houses the town hall. At the end of Rue du Général Leclerc, turn right at the junction onto Rue de Brie, heading towards Périgny-sur-Yerres. You will reach signpost 15.

(13) Stay on the street. After 350 metres, turn left onto Rue de Servon, which ends in a cul-de-sac. Continuing along this path, follow the track through the cornfields for 550 metres. At the end, turn left onto Allée de l’Europe and, after 150 metres, continue straight on at the junction with Rue André Deleau, following the path back to the Domaine de Saint-Leu.

(3) Continue straight on at the junction you passed on the way there.

(4) After 450 metres, cross Rue de La Fossé Parrot and continue straight ahead. Walk around the various agricultural plots, interspersed at times with wooded areas, such as the Bois de Saint-Leu. At the junction, keep to the right, then turn right again at the next Fork in the road to return to the Maison de la Nature et de l’Environnement in Périgny-sur-Yerres (S/E).
