Description of the walk

Follow footpath no. 27.

(S/E) From the town hall square, turn right towards the church. Turn left to go up Allée des Sapins and pass the cemetery.

(1) Turn right onto a small road between the fields. Continue to the crossroads leading to the viewpoint over the Bar peat bogs.

(2) At this crossroads, you can:

  • turn right to walk to the viewpoint (about 500 m). Two information boards provide information on the history and functioning of the peat bogs.
  • choose to continue straight ahead without going to the viewpoint and arrive at a T-junction.

(3) Continue straight ahead, then cross a farm and reach the junction with the D947.

(4) Cross it carefully and take the small D63 road opposite towards Harricourt. Go down Rue Saint-Georges to the hiking junction with the GR®14 and GR® de Pays Argonne.

(5) Turn left towards Harricourt church. Stay on this main road.

(6) At the cemetery, cross the D947 departmental road again with caution. Go up to the water tower via the D6 and take the path on the left. Stay on this path, which is shared by the GR®14 and GR® de Pays Argonne, until you reach Fontenois.

(7) Turn left onto the main street. Walk up this street for a few hundred metres, then turn left down a path at a hairpin bend. Walk to the Moulin de Fontenois and head towards Autruche via a grassy path.

(8) At this fork, leave the grassy path and take a dirt track on the right. Continue downhill to Autruche.

(9) Turn right towards the communal wash house, cross it completely and continue along the grassy path. Cross the small footbridge and walk through the communal orchard to return to the village's main street. Turn right to return to the town hall square (S/E).
