Savignac, Saint-Mesmin and the forges by the Auvézère

Park in the car park of the Savignac municipal hall. Tables are available for you to eat if you wish.

(S/E) Walk up Rue Simone Degrèze and take the path on the left to Rue du Moulin. Walk down the street and cross the Route des Forges to continue on the Route du Pont Vieux.

(1) Take the path on your right and follow it to the metal bridge.

(2) Cross the bridge and then turn left to follow the Auvézère river for over 1 km along the rocky path: take care.

(3) Go up the path and turn left until you reach the marked circular Boucle des Mouflons trail. Climb down the rocks to the bridge and cross it to begin a beautiful climb.

(4) Turn left immediately after the bridge. Follow the Ruisseau de Porte-Étoupe for about 300 m until you reach the circular Boucle des Mouflons and climb again.

(5) Turn right onto Route de la Forêt de Born and cross the village of Saint-Mesmin. Take the path at the end of the church square and continue until you reach the beautiful Auvézère.

(6) Turn left and follow the path along the river. Here too, be careful of the slippery rocks. Go to the bridge and climb the stairs.

(7) Cross the bridge and take the path that climbs (again) directly to your right. A breathtaking view awaits you.

(8) Keep an eye out on your right and take the path. Turn left a few dozen metres further on and continue to the marked circular Boucle des Mouflons trail.

(9) Turn left and walk up to Route de Veaupeytourie. Turn right and follow the road to the hamlet of Veaupeytourie.

(10) Turn right onto Impasse du Puy du Roy and after about 50 metres, take the path on the left. Come out onto Route de Veaupeytourie and turn right to Château de la Forge.

(11) Take the path on your right and descend to the Forges de Savignac. Admire the view , read or simply continue to the Route des Forges (D75E). Turn right and cross the bridge.

(12) Leave Route des Forges via the path on your right and take one last look at the forges above the Auvézère. Continue to the metal bridge.

(2) Take the same route back to the Savignac municipal hall (S/E).
