Park in the car parks near the cemetery, on the left of the D48 coming from Lièpvre.
(S/E) Take the west exit from Rombach-le-Franc. Leave the D48 on your right and continue for 200 metres until you reach the intersection of two streets.
(1) Take the right-hand lane which goes up the narrow Pieureusegoutte valley.
(2) When you reach a fork about 1.5 km from the village exit, take the tarmac road on the left. After a few bends, the narrow road will soon lose its tarmac surface before reaching a place called Froidegouttelle.
(3) At this fork, take the forest road on the right and stay on it until you reach the Col de Fouchy.
(4) Retrace your steps for a few dozen metres and pass the yellow barrier (do not cross the D48).
(5) After a few metres, a fork offers two routes towards Col de Noirceux: take the path on the right (ignore the path on the left, known as the "easy" route). The path winds between trees and rocks, alternating between ascents and descents, before reaching the pass, where several forest roads meet.
(6) Take the left-hand path downhill towards Schlingoutte (marked with a red circle). At the first fork, stay on the right-hand path, and do the same at the next fork. Marked with a green circle, the forest road climbs slightly and leads to the Col de Schlingoutte after 5 minutes.
(7) At the pass, turn left towards Hingrie (red circle). The downhill path begins to the right of the war memorial dedicated to the 19 soldiers of the 22nd Infantry Regiment who fell here in August 1914.
This soon joins a forest road, which you leave a few metres after the crossroads.
(8) Take the path on the left below. At the next crossroads, take the second path on the left (Chemin de la Chaussotte) which leads to the Club Vosgien mountain refuge.
(9) Continue straight ahead to reach La Hingrie (not to be confused with the pass of the same name behind the refuge).
(10) Leave the road 100 metres after the chapel dedicated to Sainte-Marie and take the forest path leading to Creux Chêne.
(11) A pretty little shelter marks the spot, where several forest roads meet. Take the path opposite the hut, marked with a blue cross. After a little over 1 km, you will cross a pasture before coming to a forest path marked with a calvary, the Croix de Chambrette.
(12) Continue straight ahead and, 100 metres further on, continue opposite to climb up the ravine between broom and hornbeam. Now stay on this path marked with a blue cross, which winds its way along the ridges to a second calvary (the Croix du Mont), located 2 km further on.
(13) No more climbs, the route will now only have a downward slope until Rombach. Turn right and, after 500 metres of descent, you will come to an intersection offering two alternatives to reach Lièpvre.
(14) Take the left-hand path (blue cross), which you will leave 1.5 km further on.
(15) Take the path on your left, marked with a green circle. The markings at the start of the trail are not very clear. The location is just after a hunting lodge, and a green arrow painted in fluorescent paint marks the change in direction.
(16) When you reach a crossroads, continue straight ahead, leaving the Grotte de Lourdes sign on your right. The path continues horizontally before arriving at the Sacré-Coeur statue overlooking Rombach.
(17) The site offers a magnificent view of the village and the surrounding peaks, which can be identified using the orientation table. From there, a few hairpin bends will take you back to Rombach in 15 minutes (S/E).
