Once you arrive in the village of La Vancelle, park in the car park on Place René Andlauer, near the multi-service centre.
(S/E) From the car park, turn left and walk up Rue du Général de Gaulle to the junction.

(1) Turn right, then immediately left. Go round the school on the right, passing behind the church via a fairly steep path. When you reach the first street, continue straight on until you reach Rue de l’Alternberg.
(2) Turn left and walk to the end of the street. Go round a fenced-off property on the left and continue to the spring catchment and the Route Forestière du Hintereck.
(3) At the junction, turn right and walk along the Route Forestière du Hintereck on fairly flat ground. Pass two junctions to reach a third one with the Route Forestière Himmelsleiter.
(4) Turn left onto a concrete path. Continue along the track to the left and go through the gate. The path climbs slightly until it meets a hiking trail.

(5) Continue straight on to the Col du Frankenbourg.
(6) You can stop here at the picnic table, or turn right uphill towards Frankenbourg Castle. Continue uphill to a small junction.

(7) The path on the right takes you to the remains of the Mur Païen, 60 metres away. Don’t miss this very rare site, which also offers a view of Lièpvre and the Rocher du Coucou. Retrace your steps and continue your climb towards the castle.
(8) After crossing the small esplanade, go through the castle’s outer wall and take in all the views before you: Val de Villé, Scherwiller, Sélestat, Haut-Koenigsbourg! Retrace your steps back to the Col du Frankenbourg.
(6) Continue in the opposite direction to your outward journey, taking the second path on the left. Head to the start of the path on the left.
(5) Take the small path on the left, following the Red Saltire markings. To your left, a clear-cut area offers a view towards the Hahnenberg and the Haut-Koenigsbourg massif. Continue to a fork.
(9) Turn left, following the same markings, to the Gros Hêtre crossroads.
(10) Continue straight on to reach the Heyriseck junction.

(11) Turn right and head towards La Vancelle. Walk straight through the forest. Gradually, the vegetation becomes less dense. You will see meadows and arrive in the village. At the houses, continue straight on along Rue des Chalets to the junction with Rue de l’Altenberg.
(12) Continue left along Rue des Chalets to return to the junction you passed on the way there.
(1) Turn left and head towards the car park (S/E).
