Description of the walk

(S) From the campsite above the church, follow the road of the same name down to the D20, cross it to the left and immediately turn right (signposted) onto the road. Reach the viewpoint at the confluence of the Diège and Dordogne rivers, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the confluence of the two rivers and the site of Saint-Nazaire opposite.

(1) Continue along the track to the hamlet of Val Beneyte, where there is a communal lodge, then head down the road to the left to the picnic area and the EDF viewpoint overlooking the Marèges reservoir.

(2) Then follow a path through the forest, cross a footbridge at marker no. 5 (Sainte-Marie-Lapanouze 65 km) and, level with an outbuilding, come out onto the road to Anglard Castle.

(3) Turn right onto the track, walk past the buildings of an RATP holiday camp and, via the tarmac road, reach the D20.

(4) Follow it carefully to the left, then turn right onto the Route de Chassagnolle la Jouanoux. Turn immediately left to reach the hamlet of Chassagnolle.

(5) Behind a house, take the signposted path on the left between the buildings. Return to the D20 and cross it again. Head downhill to cross the Artaude stream via a footbridge (marker no. 6, Liginiac 67 km), then head back up to reach the hamlet of Chaux.

(6) Leave via the left-hand track and follow the path to cross the Eau-Large footbridge.

(7) Walk for about a hundred metres and turn left onto a slightly more challenging path to reach the Saut de Juillac and the extraordinary Roc-Grand viewpoint, with a view of Anglard Castle opposite.

(8) Return to the previous crossroads, start another climb to reach a picnic area. Continue to the forest track, follow it to the right, pass under two high-voltage power lines and continue to the first houses of the hamlet of Juillac. Continue straight ahead along Rue de la Liberté, pass a small bakery and follow Rue du Roc-Grand to enter the village of Liginiac at Place de la Fontaine.

(9) Take Rue de la Mairie, then follow a path between the town hall and the chapel, go down a few steps and turn left under the boundary wall. Walk under some trees before reaching the tarmac road again. Go round the cemetery.

(10) At the ‘No Entry’ sign (except for residents), take the road on the right towards the retirement home, with the ruins of Peyroux Castle on your right. At the junction with the Route de Peyroux, turn left then take the Chemin des Étangs on the right. Head uphill to reach the junction with the Route de Bonnefont.

(11) Turn right, then immediately left. Pass under a high-voltage power line and, at the three-way junction, take the right-hand track, following it until the junction with the village road. Turn right, keep the road on your right, then turn right again. Follow this good path, ignore a road on the right, turn sharply left before reaching a new road opposite a chalet.

(12) Continue left, pass a picnic area, then cross the hamlet of Pisse-Lèbre. Carry on straight ahead at the junction and climb up to Puy de Manzagol, where there is an orientation table, a picnic area and a stunning view of the lake.

(13) Return to the road, turn right, cross the D183, then turn left and follow the signposts to the Le Maury nature village on the shores of Lake Triouzoune. You will then reach the Le Maury campsite (E), today’s stop.
