Car park near the harbour master’s office in Baume-les-Dames.
(S/E) Set off along the Rhône-Rhine Canal towards the retirement home and the campsite.
(1) Turn left after the campsite and continue to the village hall.
(2) Turn right onto the path that climbs into the forest. Ignore thefirst path on the left (not shown on the IGN map) and take thesecond one, which leads back up to the road.
(3) Once on the road, turn right and cross over to reach the car park opposite.
(4) Turn left onto the ridge path leading to the Roche de Chatard, following the Côte d'Aucroix.
(5) Enjoy the view, then carefully make your way back down to the road.
(6) Cross the road with extreme caution; there is no visibility on the bend. Cross the bridge over the Cusancin. Turn right after the bridge and follow the road until you spot a path climbing up to the left.
(7) Follow this path until you reach a statue of the Virgin Mary. Then turn left and climb up to the Fente de Babre.
(8) Continue along the ridge to reach another viewpoint, the highest point of the hike (512 m).
(9) Continue along the ridge until you reach signposts.
(10) Take a 100-metre detour to the right to see a memorial stone honouring two members of the FFI. Turn back and continue to the right until you reach the junction.
(11) Take the path that descends to the left towards Baume-les-Dames. A few bends further down, you’ll come out onto the cycle path that runs alongside the Doubs.
(12) Turn left to follow the cycle path.
(13) Cross the Pont des Pipes and continue along the Doubs to the starting point (S/E).
