Description of the walk

Start at the church square in Riville.

(S/E) Take the D75 towards Sorquainville and pass two roads on the left.

(1) On leaving Riville, turn left into Rue du Château. Take Impasse du Petit Riville on the right and continue towards Mont Rôti.

(2) Continue along the flat path which turns immediately left. At the end of the path, rejoin the road by turning right, then turn right again immediately. Continue towards the hamlet of La Mare aux Saules.

(3) As you approach the hamlet, follow theGR®211Bwhich branches off to the right. At the end of the path, continue along the road, staying on theGR®211B, and at the crossroads, continue along the road to the right for 200m.

(4) At the bend, take the path that goes straight down towards the forest, continuing along the edge of the Bois Saint-Germain and then into the Bois du Château.

(5) Cross the D75 and take Rue des Randonneurs opposite.

(6) Continue on theGR®211Bto the right towards the Riville plain until you reach a junction with a road.

(7) At the road, turn right, then turn right again towards Riville. At the entrance to the village, ignore the first road on the left and take the second one, which leads diagonally towards the finish point (S/E).

Taken on 1 January. Very cold and misty weather. A lovely, very easy walk on flat ground. Very peaceful: we didn’t come across a single soul. A bit monotonous: fields (often very beautiful), a tiny bit of woodland (which I preferred towards the end, even if it was very short). A pleasant walk, but best done when it’s warmer and there’s a bit of sunshine to brighten up the scenery. Because the walk was very easy, it took us over an hour to start warming up. Three-quarters of the route was on tarmac roads, the rest on dirt tracks, which were very muddy with large puddles that were difficult to cross. It had been dry for five days, but at that time of year the water tends to linger for a very long time. Very clear route, thank you

Despite the gale-force winds, my beloved Caux region is as beautiful as ever.

A rather pleasant rural route, divided between tarmac roads (70%) and paths through fields and woodland (doesn’t require much physical effort).

At (1), don’t look for the Impasse du Petit Riville (not seen); it is the Impasse des Châtaigniers that is located at the indicated spot.

At (5), why not pop into Sorquainville to see St Martin’s Church, with its Renaissance-style porch tower dating from 1725.
To do this, instead of crossing over and taking Rue des Randonneurs straight ahead, turn left onto Rue de l’Église for about 200 m. Then, from the church, retrace your steps for 20 m and turn left onto Chemin des Châtaigniers. This takes you back to Rue des Randonneurs, right at the spot where you need to rejoin the GR 211B, which heads off across the fields.

Thanks DO for this route, excellent description, no room for error
