Description of the walk

The walk starts in the village of Le Hanouard. Park in the small car park by the roadside on the right, near the church. Follow theGR® signposts throughout the route.

(S) Opposite the church, head to the right (GR® 211) and take the road immediately on the right to reach the cycle path.

(1) This is the start of the cycle path; follow it to the entrance to the village of Grainville-la-Teinturière.

(2) End of the cycle path; do not turn left onto theGR® 211B, but continue onthe GR® 211to take the small path on the right. Cross the Durdent via the small bridge, then turn left onto the path to reach the Durdent housing estate, which you follow to the crossroads.

(3) Turn left onto Rue de l’Église to pass in front of the town hall (on the left) and the church (on the right), which you go round to the right of. Cross the Grande Rue and follow Rue de la Foire de la Chandeleur opposite. You’ll see a dovecote on the right, above the hedges. At the end, turn right and continue straight on, leaving theGR® 211 which branches off to the left. Follow Rue du Colombier (GR® 211B) as far as the woodland. Stay on the path through the woodland, follow it and, on emerging from the woodland, cross the grassy area on the right to gradually approach the D75 road.

(4) Follow the D75 road with care. At the edge of the woodland, turn right onto theGR® 211B and almost immediately left. Follow the path which runs alongside the woodland on the left and a field on the right to reach a small road.

(5) Follow the road. At the first junction, go straight on; at the next junction, turn right and continue along the road, leaving the small road on your left. At the next junction (marker 65), turn left onto the track, follow it through open and wooded areas until you reach a gate.
Open the gate and make sure you close it properly behind you, taking care to avoid the livestock, to reach the other gate opposite.

(6) Go through the second gate, follow the track and you’ll soon reach a road; cross it. Take the path opposite to reach the Cacheux horse farm. After the farm, follow the road to the right for a few metres and quickly turn onto the track to the left between the houses. At the end of the track, take the path opposite which descends and approaches a railway line. When you reach the road, turn left.

(7) Cross the railway line. Continue along the road and turn right onto Chemin de la Carrière. Follow this to reach the road. Follow it to the right, then leave it at the right-angled junction to take the path opposite. Enter the woods to reach the railway line again.

Do not cross the tracks; turn left onto the path that climbs up behind them. At the top (altitude 117m), leave the path on your right and continue straight ahead across the field. You’ll reach the road from where you can see the bell tower of the Chapelle du Vautuit.

(8) Turn right onto the Route de la Mare au Loup and follow it. Further on, turn right onto theGR® 211B after the houses and the field. Follow it straight on to approach the D20 and reach a smaller road. Turn right onto Rue de Bad Nenndorf at the sports grounds. Walk past the sports hall and the secondary school.
At the secondary school, turn left onto the road leading down towards Doudeville. At the bottom, turn left onto Rue des Haras to reach the Pâtis au Prêtre junction.

(9) Turn right onto the main road. Continue straight on until you reach the railway line. Cross the tracks and, after the station, turn right onto the small Rue des Poteries. Pass the dead-end road by veering slightly to the left. At the top, take the path on the right and continue straight on across the field. You’ll reach a crossroads with some shrubs.

(10) Turn almost 180° to the left onto the path. Follow it and, at the Bois Robert copse, turn right. Follow the path, passing the Mare du Maroc on your left. Cross the road and continue along the path opposite across the fields. Follow it until you reach several ponds. Make a left-right zigzag so that the small copse is on your left. Turn right and follow the path. Ignore the path on the left (altitude 124m) and continue straight on until you reach the road. Continue along the road. At the first junction (altitude 132m), keep to the right and head for the small hamlet of Attemesmil.

(11) On leaving the hamlet, turn left onto Rue des Fonds and head downhill. Then take the path opposite which runs alongside the field and the woodland (altitude 111m). It winds for a while, turns to the left and a pond appears on your left; the path leads to the road. Turn right onto the road, cross it and take the tarmac path on the left. Follow it, ignoring all the paths or roads branching off at each junction. You’ll reach the Chemin du Manoir d’Auffay (GR® 211) and the manor house itself.

(12) Continue straight on. Walk alongside the fields. At the next junction, take the path on the left which leads down into the woods. Hunting lookouts line the path. Walk down to the road. Turn left to follow the road, cross it and turn immediately right to cross the river and reach the church car park (S/E).

A lovely walk
A few details:
Tall grass
Fallen trees, but you can get round them
Crossing fields (wheat and potatoes)
Crossing open fields with no livestock as access is difficult (nettles, brambles)
Point No. 9 is blocked (the detour is straightforward and shortens the route)
Regular patches of shade.
The magnificent Auffay Manor House makes for a lovely end to the walk
Watch out for horseflies and mosquitoes in summer.
There were four of us amateur walkers, including my 11-year-old daughter.
A 28.200km route completed in 7h53mn (including a lunch break)
I’d recommend it.

We set off from Bosville, where we were staying, and followed the route in the opposite direction to that described. We did this walk in the spring. We ‘cut across’ through Morocco on the way back. However, there were no signposts and the GR211B was not well maintained.

A superb walk; not too difficult, although the tall grass made it a bit of a challenge. Minimal elevation gain.

Hello Mr Pascal Bellanger,

I completed your hike on 27 March 2019 and found it excellent; I’m considering adding it to the programme for my hiking club, the ARRP.
However, in my opinion, it’s a fairly average route with an IBP difficulty rating of 72 according to the IBP Index app referenced by the FFRP – just for your information.
I’d like to point out an unexpected issue before point 9 on your route: it states to take Rue des Haras, but this road is currently closed – and I think it will remain so for quite some time. This means you have no choice but to stay on Rue de Bad Nenndorf, then continue along Route du Collège to reach the main road, and resume at point 9 from there, as per your description.

Thank you again for mapping out this route. Kind regards.
