Description of the walk

(S) Starting from the Vallonpierre Refuge, you are in the Écrins National Park. Consult the practical information.
Go around the lake on the left and take the GR®54 (red and white markings), then head to the Refuge du Clot Xavier Blanc.

(1) From the refuge, continue on the GR® until you reach Rif du Sap.

(2) At the hamlet, continue straight ahead, passing in front of the chapel, then take the path towards La Chapelle-en-Valgaudémar.

(3) Leave the GR® here and turn left onto the GRP® variant of the Tour du Vieux Chaillol(yellow and red markings) to reach the Pont des Oules.

(4) Turn right to begin a long climb towards the Lacs de Pétarel. After passing the Draye de l'Uvette, you will encounter a tricky section.

(5) Take care in this section: see photo. The path becomes more exposed. Cables have been installed to help you. Continue the climb up the switchbacks to reach the Lacs de Pétarel.

(6) Walk along the lakes and continue climbing towards the Col de Pétarel to reach the crossroads below the Lacs de Sebeyras.

(7) Please note that this section is off-trail: it takes between 5 and 10 minutes, and although there are no particular difficulties, good orientation skills are required.

As close as possible to a rocky outcrop, in a scree slope (see photo), leave the GRP® marked trail and turn left, following the cairns. Keep heading south-east until you reach your destination.
Go around the few large rocks on the left (see photo) and then wind your way to the left of a scree slope.
When you reach a rocky outcrop in front of you, go around it on the left, near the large boulders.
Then climb a few metres to the right near a fault line (see photo).
When you reach a grassy plateau (see photo), head left and cross over the small stream flowing into the fault.
Head right to climb a small hill, beyond which is the lower Sebeyras lake, where you can camp (E).
