(S) From the Maison Vieille refuge in Italy, take the white path north-east to the hamlet of Praz Neyron. From there, follow the path that runs parallel to the white path and passes near the old Plan Chécrouit cable car, going north around the buildings of the Plan Chécrouit station (1701m).
(1) TheGR® trail leaves the cable car station on the right and continues along the path which, downstream, joins a ski slope and then a forest track. Follow the numerous hairpin bends to reach Dolonne (1,210m).
(2) At the church, turn right. Follow the road, cross the Doire Baltéa, climb up towards the cemetery and reach the centre of Courmayeur (1,226 m). A visit is a must on this "rest" day. Climb the stairs leading to the church and the guides' house.
(3) Head left, then take the small road on the right that climbs up to the hamlets of Villair-dessous and Villair-dessus (1,327 m).
Pass the village and enter the pine forest, crossing meadows and then woods.
(4) Continue along the track that climbs up the left bank of the Tsapy torrent. Then cross it (1,409 m). Shortly afterwards, you will find the path on the right that climbs up under cover and leads back to the track. Continue to a fork (1,460 m).
(5) Take the path that starts on the left and climbs steeply through the larch forest. Pass a memorial stone, continue through the woods and come out onto the Pré mountain pastures (1,989 m), where you will find the Bertone refuge (E).
