You can also take the chairlift up to Maison Vieille and then continue on foot. It will then take about 25 minutes to reach Lago Chécrouit.
Lago Chécrouit from Dolonne
Starting from Courmayeur, this excursion combines comfort and a change of scenery: a quick cable car ride up to Dolonne, then a path winding through mountain pastures and forests to Lago Checrouit. To keep you company: an almost permanent view of the Mont Blanc massif.

Worth a visit
From Dolonne, you can reach the Piscina Alpina in a few minutes to cool off: https://www.courmayeurmontblanc.it/fr/sport/piscine-alpine/ In August 2025, the daily rate was £16. From 1:50 pm onwards, the rate drops to £12. You will also need to pay €4 for a compulsory swimming cap if you do not have one and/or €3 or €5 depending on the type of seat you wish to hire.
After Lago Chécrouit, you can continue on to Lac des Vesses, which is 2 km further on.

A magnificent hike following the trail of the ultra-trail of the same name. A hike designed for experienced hikers. The sections in the southernmost part can be tricky due to late snowfields on the north-east face. The route is very well marked, so there aren’t really any problems along the way. The hike can be done in either direction. This route allows you to tackle the wildest section at the start. It is also the most technically challenging part.
