In Oloron-Sainte-Marie, head towards Col du Somport. Continue to Urdos. Pass through the village and continue along the road for 2.6 km until you reach the Route Forestière de Gouetsoule on the left. Follow this road, which becomes a track suitable for vehicles, for 2.2 km until you reach a hairpin bend, the starting point for the hike.
(S/E) The hike starts at the bend to the north-east on a wide stony path. It quickly becomes a trail. After 500 m, you leave the forest and arrive at the Pont de Coustey bridge.
(1) The path continues to climb and soon reaches an intersection.
(2) Leave the path on the left that comes from the village of Urdos (Chemin de Souquet). Cross a stream and follow the path to the right-south-east. You will emerge from the forest onto a flat area.
(3) The trail begins to climb again with the stream below on the right. It enters the forest again and exits definitively after 700 m.
(4) You now continue climbing in the open in a valley with magnificent views in front of you. Cross the Ruisseau de Larry, pass to the left of three barns and you will soon arrive at the Refuge de Larry, at an altitude of 1724 metres.
(5) The refuge is unmanned but open and well equipped for either sleeping or spending some time there. Drinking water is available. From the refuge, the more adventurous can continue along the path that leads to the Col d'Ayous (about 2 hours round trip). There is a splendid view overlooking the Lacs d'Ayous and the Pic du Midi d'Ossau opposite.
Alternatively, after a well-deserved rest, return via the same route you took to get there (S/E).
