It is easy to park in the car park at the end of Rue de Messigny when coming from the centre of Hauteville-lès-Dijon. The route starts from the car park, where you will find the "Maurice" cadole or cabiote.
(S/E) Walk down Rue de Messigny towards the centre of the village of Hauteville. Shortly after the power line, turn right onto a small path that runs alongside a restored winegrowers' hut: it is marked in white and leads to the Eplouèes gatehouse.
(1) On a plot of land slightly above the low wall, you will find the Eplouèes and Mélusine gatehouses and the Herbues ice house. Turn right and follow the white markings to discover them. Stay on the path and follow the markings, then continue to the Lavières cabiote, which is built into a winegrowers' hut.
(Between points 1 and 3, you are on private property. You must respect the stone structures and the instructions posted. In particular, you must not sit on the low walls, which are fragile because the stones are not sealed, or organise a picnic in this area. If you wish to visit as a group, you must request permission from the owner, Mr Jacques Lefevre, who can be contacted on 03 80 56 27 74 or by email at lefevrejacques41@orange.fr, or directly from the Cadoles et winegrowers' hut association).
(2) At this hut, turn left to cross the winegrowers' hut and continue straight ahead to the edge of the woods, which you will follow until you reach the Herbues field path. On the right, a power line crosses the landscape.
(3) Turn left to return to the village. The path quickly turns into a tarmac road, with houses on the left. Go down Rue des Herbues to Rue de Pied-du-Mont.
(4) Turn right, following a pretty, fully renovated stone wall. The slightly uphill street soon takes you out of the village and back to the fields. Follow it for about 1 km, passing under two power lines before coming out onto a carriage road.
(5) Continue right towards Combe Talant along a good path that slopes gently downhill to the barrier that closes off access to the old municipal landfill site. From here, you can visit the Robin cabiote, which is currently being restored. To do so, take the path to the old landfill site and, 10 metres before the gate, take a path on the right marked in white, which will take you to the Robin cabiote.
(6) Return by the same path and continue left along the same road, which soon descends to the bottom of Combe Talant. At the bend, go back up and continue to the remarkable Source de Ronge, which has also been completely renovated.
(7) Continue slightly uphill until you reach the edge of the Bois Monsieur. The path then enters the forest and descends rapidly towards the Combe de Chênaux (or Chêneaux). At the bottom of the combe, you will find theGR®7markings. Turn left at the bottom of the combe, which will take you to the beautiful Chênaux spring.
(8) From the spring, turn around to return to the bottom of the valley and stay on the path to the left. Then turn right to climb the hill opposite. The path is marked in yellow and quickly turns left to climb gently towards the plateau, which you reach by taking the first path on the right.
(9) On the left, due east, you will see the Petit Grand Champ farm, which you can reach by taking a straight field path. The path goes around the farm and turns left.
(10) Leave the road to Messigny and take the wide path on the right, which you follow to the small wood, which you walk alongside for about 200 metres.
(11) Turn right onto the path after the reservoir to enter the woods. After 200 metres, it turns right and then left when you come to a new path at the end of which you can see a field. The path then descends gently to the bottom of Combe Grivot.
(12) Then take the path on the right at the bottom of the valley and follow it for about 1,300 metres. Leave the yellow-marked path when it turns left to go back up the plateau.
Continue along the path, which now climbs to remain halfway up the hillside. On the right, you will see a field which you follow until you reach the first boundary marker at the foot of a path climbing to the left. Continue to the boundary marker. It is new and marked with an A and an H for Ahuy and Hauteville.
(13) Turn left and climb straight up towards the plateau in the direction of the Comboyer cabiote in the woods of the same name. The Comboyer cabiote is 250 m higher up on the right.
(14) The Comboyer cadole is one of the largest and one of the first to have been restored by the association of cabiotes and meurgers. Continue towards the Herbues field, which you will reach after crossing a winegrowers' hut. Take the first path on the left and continue to the edge of the woods at the corner of the field. Turn right and then almost immediately left to follow the path that runs alongside the winegrowers' hut. Leave the first small path on your right and take the next one on the right, which is much better marked and signposted in yellow.
(15) Turn right and continue until you quickly come to a long field on your right, which you follow until you reach the fork at altitude 390.
(16) Turn right, heading south towards Hauteville-lès-Dijon. Continue straight ahead to return to the car park where you started (S/E).
