Description of the walk

In Port Camargue, a district located south of the centre of Le Grau du Roi, park in the car park on the north side of the marina, near the Le Flamant building on Avenue Jean Lasserre.

(S/E) Head towards the car park entrance, cross Avenue Jean Lasserre and take the street opposite to reach the port. Follow Quai Lapérouse to the right. About 200 metres further on, you will see the Sculpture Garden on your right. Continue along the quay.

(1) At the intersection, continue along the edge of the port, turning left onto Quai de Bonne Espérance, then onto Quai Bougainville (South), and arrive at the harbour master's office.

(2) Go around the building, cross a car park heading north and arrive at the access road to the slipway. Continue straight ahead, following the signs for "Le Grau du Roi par le front de mer" (Le Grau du Roi via the seafront), and arrive at Quai Bougainville (North). Walk about 50 metres to the left to reach the sculpture "L'homme-oiseau" (The Bird Man).

(3) Retrace your steps, then continue straight ahead on Quai Bougainville until you reach the beach.

(4) Follow it to the first breakwater. Continue for another 50 metres, then turn right to take the beach access. Go around the Le Nautile building on the left to return to the car park (S/E).

Some information about Port Camargue here

The construction of the neighbourhood was supervised by La Grande Motte architect Jean Balladur, which is evident in the design of certain buildings and, above all, the harbour master's office.

The Sculpture Garden, Quai Lapérouge, and the Bird Man, Quai Bougainville (north),by Albert Marchais and Michèle Goalard.

When nature reclaims its rights: the entrance to this huge marina is threatened with obstruction by the phenomenon of cresting, which pushes the dunes of Pointe de l'Espiguette northwards.
