Park near the Milly-sur-Thérain ponds. A small car park is available at the start of Allée Jacques Topin, by the wooden bus shelter.
(S/E) Continue to the end of Allée Jacques Topin.
(1) At the fork, take the road on the right. Walk along the pond on your left on Allée de la Tanche.
(2) After a left-hand bend, take the path on your right which leads you onto Allée de la Perche. You will arrive at the tennis courts and Herchies football ground.
Leave the stadium on your left and take the footbridge on your right to cross Le Thérain. Continue along Chemin Brûlé.
(3) Once you reach the end of Chemin Brûlé, take the road on your left. Cross the level crossing on your right, taking care to do so safely. Continue for a few metres, then turn into Rue Canthereine on your left.
(4) At the end of the street, continue along the road to the left. Follow this road for about 300 m.
(5) Leave the road just before the large bend to the right and take Chemin de Bracheux (a stony/grassy path) on your left. Continue along this path for about 2 km, keeping the railway line on your left.
(6) After passing a clearing on your right, you will reach a junction (before a level crossing). Take the path on your right which goes uphill and continue for about 600 m.
You will reach a junction where a wayside cross stands (elevation 121).
Then take the path on your right, which leads you across open countryside, gradually offering views of Herchies and Milly-sur-Thérain. Continue along this path for just over 2 km.
(5) You are back in Herchies. Join the road on your right and continue in the opposite direction along Rue Canthereine.
Do not take Chemin de Bracheux on your right (you would be retracing the route you have just taken) but continue along Rue Canthereine, straight on for 300 m.
You will come to a fork in the road that you passed on the way there.
(4) Turn left onto Rue de l'Église. Once you have passed the church on your left, continue straight on along Rue Georges Hernoux. Follow this street for 200 m.
You’ll reach a junction; turn left onto Rue du Manoir and follow it for 50 metres.
(7) Continue to the right along the small grassy path (it is situated between two houses) for about 2 km. On your right, you have a beautiful view of Milly-sur-Thérain and its ponds. Ignore the two paths on your left and you will reach a junction at elevation 129. Take the path leading down to your right, where you’ll have the forest on your left and fields on your right.
Continue for 300 m and, at the fork, take the path on your left. Enter the forest and continue downhill for 300 m. At the bottom of the descent, take the small path on your right. Walk a few metres and continue to the right along the path. Continue along this path for 250 m, with a meadow on your left and the forest on your right.
When you reach the railway line, cross it with great care.
Caution: there is barbed wire as you cross; do not get your feet caught in it! Go down the 3–4 steps covered in grass and you will reach the road.
(8) Continue to your left, following the railway line on your left. At the end of the road, you’ll see the waste disposal centre and the sewage treatment plant on your right. Take the stony path on the right.
Cross the River Thérain via the Pont des Bœufs and walk alongside an apple orchard on your left.
You will come to some houses and a tarmac road (Rue du Clos Alletete) and continue straight on to the end of the street.
(9) Turn right onto Rue de Dieppe. You will cross the Petit Thérain river after a few metres.
Cross the roadcarefully to reach the side of the media library. Immediately afterwards, take the stony path on your left (Rue du Moulin) and continue for 150 m.
At the fork, turn right and walk 100 m, then continue straight ahead, leaving the primary school on your right.
Continue along this road for a few metres.
(10) The road on your left leads to the church. Continue straight on along Rue Ferdinand Buisson, which climbs towards Courroy.
Just 100 m further on, leave the road and take the small grassy path straight ahead which climbs up to the Croix Godard, ignoring the path on your left.
(11) At the Croix Godard, take a moment to admire the view over Milly-sur-Thérain and the surrounding area.
Then turn left, ignoring the main road. Continue along this path for 500 m. At the fork, take the path leading down to your left. After a left-hand bend, continue downhill until you reach a tarmac road.
(12) Then turn left, using the church of Milly-sur-Thérain as a landmark. Continue along Rue de l’Église to the end of the street.
(10) Continue to your right, along Rue Ferdinand Buisson. Walk 100 m, then turn left. Pass the primary school and continue to the end of the street to reach the centre of Milly-sur-Thérain. You will arrive in Rue de Dieppe, opposite a pizzeria.
(13) Turn left onto Rue de Dieppe and walk through the village. Pass the bakery on your left. You’ll come to a junction with a heating shop on your right. Use the pedestrian crossing to cross the road and you’ll find yourself next to this shop.
(14) Turn right onto Rue des Étangs, leaving the heating shop on your right. Continue straight on for 500 m.
(15) After a slight bend to the left, turn immediately left into Allée de la Carpe, keeping the boules court on your right.
(16) Follow the pond on your right for 200 m.
(17) Turn left onto Allée du Brochet, keeping the pond on your right. At the end of the pond, take a small path on your right.
(2) At the end of this path, continue to your right along Allée de la Tanche, still keeping the pond on your right. Ignore the various paths on your left.
(1) At the end of Allée de la Tanche, you’ll come to a small crossroads with a wooden shelter on your right. Turn right, walking past the wooden shelter and the pond, then right again onto Allée de l’Anguille.
You are now between the small and large ponds at Milly-sur-Thérain. The small pond is on your left and the large pond (not visible at this point in the walk) on your right.
Walk round the small pond, continuing along Allée de l'Anguille and keeping the small pond on your left.
(17) You’ll come to a small junction; leave the main road by turning left to reach the boules court on Allée du Gardon.
(16) Continue along this path (the pond is on your left and you will pass a parish house on your right).
At the end of the path, turn left into Rue des Étangs and immediately turn left into Allée Jacques Topin to reach the car park (S/E).
