Description of the walk

Park in the free car park just above the harbour. The car park below is pay-and-display.

(S/E) Leave the car park and head down towards the sea and the beach.

(1) Take the GR®34 on the left, facing the sea. Pass Pointe du Chatry and start walking along Port Mer beach.

(2) Continue along the street, keeping in the same direction, then leave it on the right to continue following the GR®34. Pass Pointe de Barbe Brûlée, ignore two successive turnings on the left further on, and reach a three-way junction.

(3) Turn right to go around the point and continue to the end.

(4) Turn back and return to the semaphore.

(5) Continue straight ahead, then turn right before the brewery, staying on the GR®34.

(6) Pass Pointe de la Roche Froide and continue until you reach Rue des Ajoncs (D201).

(7) Turn right to follow the path that runs alongside the departmental road, then veers off to the right.

(8) Pass Pointe de la Moulière, walk along Verger beach, then reach a crossroads at the Gaudichais ponds.

(9) Head left towards the hamlet, go straight through it to return to the D201.

(10) Carefully cross the coastal road and follow the path opposite to the crossroads. Continue straight ahead until you reach Rue de la Vieille Rivière.

(11) Make a short first turn right then left turn to enter the cul-de-sac and negotiate the left-hand bend. Before reaching the end of the cul-de-sac, take the path on the right that passes between the houses before joining Rue de la Basse Cancale, which you should follow to the right.

(12) Pass under the coastal road (D201) and descend towards the car park (S/E).

A very beautiful hike with quite a few decent climbs. Allow around four hours, including a short picnic.
Magnificent from the start to the Pointe du Grouin, then a beautiful customs officers' path and stops at two fine sandy beaches, returning via the village. A must-do.

A beautiful hike, especially on the path that runs along the sea. Quite steep in places, so watch out for roots and uneven ground. In good weather, it is truly splendid

Simply sublime! Especially the west coast. No major difficulties. Quite busy at Pointe du Grouin. Take care in rainy weather, as there are lots of roots!

We did this beautiful hike in the opposite direction. The car park is well located and quiet. The hike is very beautiful, especially on the east side of the point, with magnificent panoramic views. The route is well marked and the description is a little unnecessary as the landscapes speak for themselves. It was a little busy in August, but we set off at 9.30 a.m. and had no problems. I would recommend it

Travelled in dry weather with no problems, no difficulties, beautiful scenery, saw two hawks hunting nearby.

Long circular hike around Pointe du Grouin on 22 May 2025, medium difficulty, with our group of 16 hikers, starting from the Port Picaine car parks. If possible, do this route in dry weather as there are many roots and rocks on the GR 34. Well-maintained and well-marked route. Magnificent panoramic views to discover.
