Short cultural hike above the hamlet of Fouillouse

To get to the starting point by car: from Barcelonnette, follow the D900 departmental road towards Jausiers, La Condamine-Chatelard, then the D902 towards Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye. Cross the village, taking the narrow road towards Fouillouse. After La Grande Serenne, turn right onto the road that crosses the Ubaye Gorges via the Pont du Châtelet bridge. Continue along this road to the compulsory car park in the hamlet of Fouillouse.

(S/E) Find the start of the GR®5 trail, which is located at the upper car park in the direction of Fouillouse.

(1) At the signposts (altitude 1,880 m), turn left towards "Les Vistes".

(2) When you reach "Les Vistes" (altitude 1950 m), leave the GR®5 and follow the yellow markings on the right towards "Carrefour des Cloutasses".

(3) On the plateau before reaching the crossroads, you can see and visit the Fouillouse stronghold defence posts on your right, remnants of the Second World War. Continue to "Carrefour des Cloutasses" (altitude 2,070 m).

(4) Turn right towards "Fouillouse". On the descent, on your left, you can admire the very distinctive shape of the Brec de Chambeyron.

(5) At "Chemin du Chambeyron" (altitude 1,910 m), turn right, cross the hamlet of Fouillouse, and return to the car park (S/E).

• The Pont du Châtelet bridge and the Ubaye Gorges.
• The hamlet of Fouillouse and its chapel.
• Defence posts, remnants of the last world war.
• Accessible by car: Maljasset, the last hamlet in the upper Ubaye Valley.
