Short circular of Bordeaux-Centre on the east side through green spaces.

This is a circular close to the Garonne which aims to connect the various green spaces of La Bastide, a neighbourhood located on the right bank of the Garonne, in two hours, avoiding traffic as much as possible. La Bastide is a former working-class neighbourhood of Bordeaux that has long been neglected and is now undergoing complete renovation. You will come across buildings from the 1950s, as well as recent futuristic buildings and old Bordeaux shops. You can easily move from one era to another, and the construction work is far from complete. It is possible to do this route by bike, taking care.

Description of the walk

Go to Porte de Bourgogne by Tram A-C-D-E-F in front of the stone bridge.

(S/E) Cross the oldest bridge in Bordeaux (lovely view) and discover the pretty Place Stalingrad, which is being greened, and its famous Blue Lion.

(1) Follow the quays on the left, Promenade Michel Courajoud. Soon on the right is the small Square des Droits de l'Enfant with playground equipment. Continue along the quays to the "Puits", a green building by artist Suzanne Treister (worth visiting).

(2) Turn right, cross the Quai des Queyries, walk a few metres to the right and enter the Botanical Garden through a pretty metal gate.

(3) ) Set off on an adventure in the garden (lake, several thousand plants, eleven reconstructed natural landscapes of Aquitaine, greenhouses, exhibitions, activities, etc.). Cross the garden lengthwise and exit on the left in front of the Cité Botanique and the statue of Carl Von Linne. Turn right onto Avenue Abadie, walk along the Jardin Abadie and the pretty Sainte-Marie de la Bastide Church. Turn right, then cross the noisy Avenue Thiers and follow Rue Chabrely opposite. Turn right at the second street, Rue Montméjean, then turn left into the narrow Passage Durand. Cross Rue de la Benauge and continue straight ahead onto Rue du Général du Cheyron, then turn left onto Rue Henri Dunant. Pass in front of Lycée Mauriac, then turn right at the first street, Rue René Buthaut. Welcome to the new Belvédère neighbourhood...

(4) Turn left onto Sente de la Frégate, between the buildings and the sports fields. Continue for about 150 metres before turning right in front of a building. Continue straight ahead for about 100 metres and turn slightly right onto Rue des Osiers, cross Quai Deschamps along the Garonne and reach Parc aux Angéliques and its magnificent wisteria alley!

(5) Turn left and cross Quai Deschamps before Pont Saint-Jean to reach the bridge and cross the Garonne. At the end of the bridge, go down the metal staircase that leads to the quays and reach Porte de Bourgogne (S/E) and Pont de Pierre, walking alongside Parc des Sports Saint-Michel.

The entrances to the botanical garden were closed except for the main entrance—perhaps because it was 1 November—
the interest lies in the fact that there are beautiful façades, curiosities such as a horse's head on a façade, etc.
As for the green spaces, I can confirm that the angelica park is very beautiful even when it is not the season for wisteria to bloom.
