(S/E) Place des Quinconces, opposite the Girondins monument, turn left when facing the Girondins monument, follow Cours du Maréchal Foch, then take the first left, Cours de Gourgues (very wooded). Cross Cours de Verdun and enter the Jardin Public.
(1) Two remarkable trees in the garden, a Mexican bald cypress and a pecan tree. Take the path on the right that runs along the left side of the lake (passing by the traditional Guérin puppet theatre, present since 1853) then on the left, join and cross the History Museum pavilion.
(2) Exit onto Place de Longchamps and follow Rue David Johnston, then quickly turn right onto Rue Laroche. Take the second right onto Rue du Lavoir, then the third left onto Rue Mandron before entering Parc Rivière.
(3) Cross the park towards the west, taking in one of Bordeaux's seven remarkable trees, a bald cypress. Stroll through this park, which features a gardeners' house and shared gardens. Exit Rue de Rivière on the right, then turn left at thethird street, Rue Auguste Poirson. At the end of the street, turn right onto Rue de Tivoli, cross Boulevard Pierre 1er, then continue for 100 metres before turning right into Parc Marceau.
(4) Cross the park towards the east and exit through a small gate, follow the path between the buildings, then cross Boulevard Pierre 1er again and continue straight ahead on Rue Mandron. Turn left onto Rue Henri Expert, walking alongside a large building. You will enter the working-class neighbourhood of Grand Parc. Cross the large green space towards the north-east and cross Avenue Émile Counord (tramway). Turn left, then turn right into the Jardin de la Grenouillère.
(5) Cross the garden, then turn left onto Cours Journu Auber and walk 50 metres before passing through a gate on the right. Walk alongside the Tatry gallery before passing through another large gate, then turn left and walk 50 metres before crossing Cours du Médoc. Follow Rue Gaston Marchou to the roundabout, then turn right onto Allées Haussmann (with the pretty Étienne Morin square on your right) until you reach Cours Louis Fargue. Continue straight ahead onto Cours du Raccordement before turning right onto Cité Chantecrit.
(6) On the left is Parc Chantegrillon, home to one of Bordeaux's seven remarkable trees: a three-headed black poplar, seriously stripped of its leaves. Continue along Cité Chantecrit and turn left at the first street, Rue du Commandant Hautreux. Then turn left onto Rue Armand Dulamon (note: roadworks in August 2024), then right onto Rue Marcel Pagnol, left onto Rue Bourbon and right onto the tree-lined Sente des Carrelets, continuing to the end. Go left for 50 metres before crossing the large Rue Lucien Faure, then the Pont du Pertuis bridge that separates the floating docks, at the submarine base.
(7) Turn left, then right onto Allée Alexandra David-Néel until you reach Rue Michel Slitinsky. Please note: roadworks in August 2024 may require you to take a more urban route along Cours Henri Brunet. At the roundabout, turn left onto Cours Dupré de Saint-Maur and continue for 400 metres before turning right onto Rue Charles Martin. On the right is Stade municipal Charles Martin, which is closed at night. Follow Rue Charles Martin to the end and cross Rue Achard (tramway).
(8) Go opposite, to Impasse Amédée Jouandot, to discover Brandenburg Park and Port de la Lune Park, which are always open. After your visit, walk up Rue Achard for 250 metres before turning right onto Rue Charlevoix de Villers and crossing the pretty Place Adolphe Buscaillet (unfortunately, the building is poorly maintained). Follow Rue de New-York for 50 metres, then turn left and walk 500 metres along the pretty, tree-lined Sente des Radoubs. Turn left onto Rue des Étrangers until you reach Rue Achard and the pretty little Place des Vivres de l'Art, which features metal sculptures. Continue right on Rue Achard until you reach La Cité du Vin.
(9) There is a lovely garden to visit next to La Cité du Vin (bat3 pier - river transport costs the same as a bus ticket). Cross the Pont Tournant bridge and take the path directly to the left that runs alongside the Garonne, then cross the Pont Jacques Chaban-Delmas bridge via the tunnel. Continue along the busy path that runs alongside the Garonne for about 2 km. There are numerous gardens along the way.
(10) Before the tram tracks turn right, turn right, cross the Quai Louis XVII and the tram tracks. Follow a path parallel to the Allée de Bristol and continue to the two rostra that adorn the Place des Quinconces, on the Garonne side (S/E).
