Park in the Col d'Aizac car park.
(S/E) Take the road to the church (at the pass, the northernmost of the five junctions). Follow it uphill for about 200 metres. Take the first path on the left and then, almost immediately, turn right uphill onto the path above the road. Follow it to the hamlet of Le Roux, where you will rejoin the tarmac road near an imposing building.
(1) Cross the street; the path continues uphill opposite. After two wide hairpin bends and a wider, gentler climb, pass a barn on your right and climb a little more steeply to a first beautiful viewpoint to the east (altitude 804). Continue on the left along the gently sloping path to a three-way junction.
(2) Leave the track that descends towards L'Hugenot and continue uphill to the left. You will arrive at a pass (Les Coulets, elevation 875). On the left, the pass is a car park during the hunting season. On the right, a path leads to a barn. Follow the middle path that runs alongside a collapsed fence in the broom. Climb up to the hiking mast (elevation 956) surrounded by a few pine trees.
(3) Take the path furthest to the left, which descends steeply. Follow this steep slope, a slightly level section, and another steep descent to arrive at the ruins of Mal Combe and the Ruisseau de Chastagner ravine. Cross this stream, emerge onto an open space and, after another level section, you will reach the hamlet of Chastagnier Farde and the road after a final descent.
(4) Follow the road to the left to Chastagner Gourd. Cross the hamlet, then the bridge over the Chastagner stream (already encountered above). Continue for about 50 metres after the bridge.
(5) Turn left uphill onto the Ayres path. After the level crossing, you will come to a wide, recently built access road. Leave it on the left to join the path above a meadow. Continue downhill to reach an intersection.
(6) Take a sharp right turn, then after about 50 metres, take the steep descent on the left. The somewhat old staircase is in poor condition. Return to the outward route and follow it in the opposite direction to the car park (S/E).
