A short walk around Les Geymonds

A short, easy and peaceful walk with little elevation gain, along various country and mountain paths, often lined with Lauzes, passing through the two or three hamlets surrounding the Geymonds industrial estate, without ever really seeing it! You’ll be treated to several panoramic views of the eastern range of the Northern Vercors.

Description of the walk

Park in the Pumptrack & Skate Park car park, located to the right of the road leading from the roundabout to the supermarket.

(S/E) Exit the car park towards the park, and take Via Vercors on the right, running alongside the car park, then cross a road to continue opposite on Via Vercors; do not take the first dirt track that climbs to the right, but carry on until you reach the fork 200 m further on.

(1) Leave Via Vercors and take the tarmacd path uphill to the right. Pass between the houses, keeping as straight as possible, until you reach the T-junction

(2) Turn right to follow the GR®, facing the eastern ridge of the Northern Vercors, until you reach and enter the hamlet of Les Bonnets.

(3) At the cross, turn left onto Chemin des Bonnets to join Chemin de Ville Vieille. Cross it and pass to the right of the bus stop.

(4) Head down to the left towards the hamlet of Les Poulats.

(5) Continue straight on, without entering the hamlet. The path winds its way up and down until it reaches a plateau, facing the first houses of Villard-de-Lans with the resort in the background.

(6) At the signpost, before the next hamlet of Payonère, turn right onto the straight path leading down between two rows of trees, which then turns into a ditch.

(7) Return to the Via Vercors to the right, cross the bridge over the Ruisseau de Vieille Ville, cross a road, walk past the Protestant church, and return to the car park (S/E).

A short, pleasant and easy walk through the Vercors countryside, with the area’s iconic peaks (Tête des Chaudières, Grande Moucherolle, Cornafion, etc.) as a backdrop
At the start of April, some paths were still covered in snow.
The route took 1½ hours at a leisurely pace.
Note: About 80 metres after waypoint (1), be sure to take the path on the left towards a house. It’s easy to keep going along the wide path that climbs to the right towards La Tour (that’s what we did, before turning back after 200 metres!)
Thanks to Ange Heureux for posting this lovely walk online.
