Description of the walk

The starting point is at the car park of the Granges-d’Ans cemetery.
The walk is not signposted at present.

(S/E) Facing the cemetery gate, head left and walk along the cemetery on a tarmac path, well shaded, alongside the walnut grove. Pass the water treatment plant, continue along a grassy path and ignore the first path on the right. Before reaching the hamlet of Lavivier, you will see a fountain on the right, protected by a grille. At the crossroads, turn left and then, after 20 m, turn right onto a path that runs between the houses.
At the fork, turn right and continue along the path between two stone walls. Then turn left and reach a crossroads at elevation 273.

(1) Two options at this point:
- choose to shorten the walk by turning right, then 30 m further on, turn left to head directly to the Fontaine du Temple.
- Turn left towards Le Temple-Laguyon, ignore the path on the right and go straight on (route described).

(2) When you reach the tarmac road, take the grassy path diagonally to the right leading towards the copse of trees.
Further on, do not enter the field but head down to the right into the woods.
At the first fork, ignore the path on the right. Cross a limestone plateau. A dry-stone hut is on the left. Then, veer right until you reach a crossroads.

(3) Leave the paths to Chourgnac and Azerat on your left. Head right. However, before you set off, don’t miss the Cabane des Amoureux, 200 m on the left.
At the tarmac road, turn right and follow it.

(4) At the Carrefour du Temple-Laguyon, turn right onto the road, then do not take the first path on the left but the next one at the edge of the woods. Continue straight on, leaving two paths on your right as you climb. You will then reach the first junction of the circular route.

(1) There are also two options here:
- choose to shorten the walk by turning right to reach the car park at Granges-d'Ans cemetery.
- continue straight ahead, then turn sharply left and head for a junction with a road (route described).

(5) Turn right onto this road for 30 m, then take a path on the left into the forest.
At the next junction, continue straight ahead for 30 m and follow a path that turns right. At the next crossroads, ignore the path on the left and go straight on to reach a road junction.

(6) Follow the sign for the pond, straight ahead along the tarmac road. Ignore the two paths on the left and take thethird one. At the next junction, continue downhill to the left, then left again onto the path that climbs, and continue straight ahead.

(7) Pass the path on the right, then, at the next crossroads, turn right onto a stony path. You will reach the end of a pond.

(8) At the Étangs de Maumont (private ponds), turn right and walk alongside these ponds.
''Look out for the wash houses and springs on the left-hand side of the path''.
Pass a path on the left. Continue to a group of houses and follow the path without going to the crossroads by the ponds you passed earlier.
Ignore the three paths on the right and turn left to rejoin a tarmac road. Turn right onto this road and follow it for 150 m.

(9) Turn left onto a path and continue straight ahead. Then take the path on the right.
‘As you climb, you can see a pidgeon hunting hut and an inukshuk on the left, on private land.’
At the tarmac road, turn left and, after 10 m, turn right and go downhill to the next tarmac road, cross it and take the path opposite.
At the next tarmac road, go straight on to the cemetery (S/E).

A lovely walk, with few or no roads, and beautiful paths
the signposting is inconsistent (yellow, green or absent) and at junctions the right path is sometimes ‘difficult’ to find.
Fortunately, we had the route description and the paper map, and with the live tracking on Visorando
, everything went smoothly.
It’s a hike I’d recommend.

A very pleasant walk using the GPX track, with lovely countryside scenery; no roads, just paths, so best done after a dry spell to avoid the very muddy sections (which was the case for us).
Indeed, the banks of the ponds are a lovely spot to stop for a bite to eat (a shame there aren’t any tables!!).

A very easy route to follow with no (or very little) elevation gain … and some lovely views.
The edge of the pond is ideal for a peaceful picnic...

The explanations are spot on
The first section is marked in yellow, then from point 1 to point 5 it’s marked in green.
After that, you must follow the instructions carefully as there are no markings
It’s a very pleasant, shaded walk… ideal for hot weather
