Vitaboucle route no. 31: Around Hangenbieten

Park in front of the football stadium.

(S/E) Take Chemin de l'Étang towards the Bruche Canal, which is behind the Stell & Bontz company building.

(1) Once you reach the Bruche, turn left and walk to the bridge. Cross the bridge on your right and then turn right. Walk along the Canal de la Bruche until you reach Rue des Fleurs, where you turn left and continue to the intersection with Rue des Églises.

(2) Turn right. At the roundabout, turn left onto Rue du Château. Follow this road uphill, staying on the pavement, even though it is narrow. When you reach Rue de la Paix, which is on your right, turn left and take the stairs alongside the building.

(3) Turn left to join another path about 20 metres away. If possible, stay behind the guardrail for safety. Continue straight ahead on this path. At the intersection, turn left and follow this path for about 700 metres until you reach a T-junction.

(4) Turn right onto this path, which climbs up to the D93 road. Once at the edge of the road, cross it carefully by turning right/left to reach the path on the other side. Continue along this path to the water tower. Turn right and join the D221.

(5) Carefully cross Rue de la Libération and continue straight ahead on this path for approximately 1 km.

(6) Take the path on your right. At the next intersection, turn right again. Follow the path and the markings through the forest until you reach Rue de la Tuilerie.

(7) Turn left onto Rue des Magnolias. Opposite the rubbish bins, turn left and you will arrive at Rue des Chênes.

(8) Turn left onto Rue des Saules. Continue along this street until you pass the concrete flower pots and continue straight ahead.

(9) Turn right, then left onto Rue du Lavoir and continue to the end.

(10) Turn left onto Rue du 14 Juillet. After about 300 metres, cross the bridge over the Canal de la Bruche. Continue along this street, which becomes Rue de la Gare a little further on.

(11) At the end of the village, turn onto the path to the right of the road. This will take you to the car park (S/E).

By bus, lines 44 or 209 will drop you off in front of Hangenbieten Town Hall, from where you can join the route which passes nearby.
