Permanent route in Pian-sur-Garonne

Starting from the City Stade car park and the school (below the town hall of Pian-sur-Garonne), this hilly route alternates between vineyard paths, forest trails and nature trails, offering ideal terrain for trail running, but also suitable for mountain biking or, of course, hiking.
Throughout the route, you will enjoy magnificent panoramic views: over the Garonne valley, with views of Saint-Macaire and Langon, the villages of Verdelais and Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, and a passage near the Château de Malromé, dear to Toulouse-Lautrec.
It is a varied route that combines physical effort, nature and the discovery of the region's wine-growing heritage.

Description of the walk

Park in the school car park (behind the town hall).

(S/E)From the City Stade and the school, followthe path that runs alongside the vineyards towards the west. You will soon reach an intersection.

(1) Continue straight ahead until you reach a road called Chemin de la Valade.

(2) Cross it and continue left along the downhill vineyard path. Walk along the vineyards, then take a road and pass close to the hamlet of La Gravette. First turn right then left here to reach an orientation table.

(3) Continue along the path between the vineyards. You will reach the Croix de Bord.

(4) Begin a short descent, still along the edge of the vineyards. At a bend, you will find the road leading to the hamlet of Bel-Air.

(5) Cross the road opposite, heading towards Ruat. At the next crossroads, turn right to enter the forest. Before the Leytoure crossroads, turn left to reach the Bernille stream.

(6) Caution: here, cross the stream on a small sloping bridge where it is easy to slip. You will soon reach an intersection.

(7) Here you have two options:
- go straight ahead to join the Mousseyron road, turn right, cross the hamlet of Mousseyron, then return to the Chemin de la Valade crossroads, which you passed on the way there,
- turn left after the trees at the top of the embankment, which is the route shown on the map. Walk again between the vineyards, then along the edge of the woods. Turn right onto the Lagourin road, after a right-hand bend you will arrive at the Ruisseau de la Tuilerie.

(8) Leave the road and turn right, walk along the vineyards and, after a series of ups and downs, you will reach the hamlet of Penot.

(9) Turn left and pass through the hamlet of La Piolette. Shortly afterwards, turn right to reach the edge of a wood. Turn 90° to the right and walk along the edge of the wood. Continue between the vineyards, pass near a fountain and continue until you reach a wood.

(10) Enter the woods and follow the marked path. You will very quickly reach the foot of a hill.

(11) Please note: this steep but short climb is made easier by the presence of a support rope. Continue to the hamlet of Corne.

(12) After the house, take the path on the left that descends before the vineyard. Then cross the road slightly to the right to take another path with broken bricks on the ground. Follow the path through woods, vineyards and clearings to reach the hamlet of Grand Pierre.

(13) Take the path on the right for 50 metres, then descend to the left before the ruined house. Still on the edge of the vineyards, reach the road leading to La Tuilerie. Cross it to arrive at the edge of a new wood.

(14) Enter the woods and you will soon reach the Ruisseau de la Tuilerie stream. Follow it along both its left and right banks. At the edge of the woods, turn right across the fields to return to the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(1) Turn left and retrace your steps to return to the City Stade car park (S/E).

Hello, everyone.
We did this route on Sunday, 5 October 2025, in mild weather (it is best to avoid very hot weather and perhaps also periods after heavy rain).
The route offers numerous views of the Garonne and Langon plains, then the hills of Entre-Deux-Mers. There are many vineyards, of course, but they are not monotonous, as hamlets, valleys and groves add diversity.
Walking shoes are recommended as the vineyard terrain is often uneven. There are few roads to follow.
Please note that the route is very uneven; although the slopes are not steep, they are repetitive. There are few flat areas where you can catch your breath. This can be hard on your legs and your breathing (I know something about this at 75 years old!). The route was completed at an average speed of 3 km/h, whereas on flat ground we often manage 4 or even 4.5 km/h. So be warned!
90% of the route is very well marked with red arrows, allowing cyclists, trail runners and walkers to use it.
Surprisingly, the remaining 10% is missing markings (I don't think this is intentional, but vandalism?) in two or three strategic locations! It is therefore better to have a GPS, as the 1:25,000 map is of little use for these details.
Thank you for this route and this lovely trail.
