Description of the walk

Park in the centre of the village of Soulignac.

(S/E) Head due west along the road, following it as it winds through the vineyards. You’ll reach a bend where a footpath joins the road.

(1) Head up to the left along the vineyards. Go round them to rejoin the road further on. Turn left onto the road to reach the entrance to the hamlet of Le Biot.

(2) Walk along the right-hand side of the property wall and take the path through the vineyards. You’ll reach the next hamlet, Galouchey.

(3) Go round the property by turning right. Make a detour to the left, then another to the right, walking through the vineyards. Leave the last vineyard behind to enter the hamlet of Bertrand.

(4) Take the road opposite; at the crossroads before Cousseau, take the path on the right. Go round Cousseau, turn left at a 90° angle onto the path to rejoin the road (elevation 92). Turn right onto it and continue to thesecond crossroads.

(5) Turn right onto the track, follow the vineyards, cross a stream, start a gentle climb, and reach the D119 road at the highest point.

(6) Take this road to the left and leave it to take the road on the right at the next Y-junction (elevation 97). Stay on this road to return to the starting car park in Soulignac (S/E).

A lovely walk – it’s a shame there wasn’t a bit more woodland

As with all these walks through the vineyards, it’s best to avoid the periods when the vines are being treated and during the grape harvest. It’s best to check with local council offices or the châteaux so as not to disrupt their work

The route I took during the grape harvest. A bit of background noise from the grape-harvesting machines. It’s perfectly bearable. I came across a kestrel, a green woodpecker, a pheasant hen, and a lovely caterpillar crossing the road… Often, instead of walking along the road, you can walk along the edges of the vine rows. It’s more& rustic and comfortable.

A lovely, easy walk, just a bit hilly. Beautiful views through the vineyards. A real pleasure.
