Description of the walk

Rue du Prieuré car park. Since 2025, parking in Locronan has been subject to a charge: €5 all year round.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, take Rue du Prieuré towards the church, turn right at the corner of the Hôtel le Prieuré and join Venelle du Prieuré. Follow this street, which turns at a right angle and continues along a grassy path. Ignore a small street on the left and go up a stony path that passes near a beautiful manor house on the left. At the top, you will come to a barrier and leave thePR®® on the left.

No markings

(1) Turn right and go down a wide stony path that leads to the Route de Quimper (D63).
Cross with extreme caution, then follow this road to the right for about 200 m and turn left onto a wide path (orange telephone box on the left). You will come to a fork opposite a path between fields.

Mountain bike signposting 7-8

(2) At the signpost, turn right, continue along the tarmac path of Park Tri Horn and join the small road that leads to Bois du Névet. Follow this road, with a speed limit of 50 km/h, on the left, using the safe crossing on the right-hand side, pass the Latitude Ouest hotel and arrive at the entrance to the woods.

No markings

(3) At the last post, cross at the pedestrian crossing and enter the woods, ignoring a wide path on the left. When you reach a fence, turn left and follow the wide path downhill, still on the edge of the woods where a small stream flows.

(4) Just before a small private pond with a Japanese bridge on your left, turn right and climb a steep slope for about 100 metres to reach a junction with the horse riding trail. Take the path opposite (Roz ar Veilh) heading north-west. Follow this long straight path uphill and then downhill. At the fallen signpost, continue straight ahead to reach, after a short climb, the main path through the woods called Hent Kreiz (central path). Here you will find an information board, a bench and a picnic table.

PR®® Yellow markings not very visible

(5) Turn left onto this wide, downhill lane and ignore another lane (Hent ar Stankou) that descends to the left, heading south-west.

No markings

Leave thePR®® on your left and continue downhill in a south-westerly direction for about 500 m until you reach the crossroads with the signpost indicating Kerlaz (bench on your left).

PR®® Marked Yellow, not very visible

(6) Turn right towards the north-west and arrive near the path designed for people with reduced mobility.
No markings (theGR®® route is no longer accurate)

(7) At the signpost indicating Kerlaz on the left and Locronan on the right, follow the latter, continuing along the path which climbs steadily. There are still a fewGR®® markings. Continue until you reach a fence on the left after the place called Kergoad Neved on the map. Ignore the small gap in the fence to reach a wide opening.

(8) Turn left into the passageway in the fence and continue towards the houses of Plas ar Lochou. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead on the small road that climbs towards the D7 and ignore the access to the Mez farm on the right.

(9) Cross this main road with extreme caution (no protected crossing) and continue almost opposite along the white path that passes between two houses: panoramic view of Douarnenez Bay and Ménez Hom. Continue towards Kermenguy farm on your left (old well now used as a compost bin). Reach a crossroads and continue straight ahead along a sunken lane below a plastic gate factory (Établissement Cadiou). Pass the large Kerbléon livestock farm on your left, cross a small stream, climb up to cross the courtyard of the Rodou Glaz farm (lodges) and join a small road.

(10) First turn right then left for about 100 metres and continue along the wooded path. Ignore a path on the right, pass a small stone cross and follow the access road to the water treatment plant (Parc Ar Fouenec path) until you reach another crossroads.

PR®® Yellow markings

(11) Turn left, leaving theGR®® trail to your right, cross the hamlet of Goulit ar Guer (beautiful restoration work in progress) and climb towards the Croaz Troyout cross. Turn right onto a path at the edge of the fields, ignoring a path on the right where thePR®® trail begins.

No markings

Approximately, note the large farmhouse of Prad Treanna and its access road on the left, then arrive at the D63. Cross this departmental road with caution and continue opposite along the path that crosses a small road near a new cross, Croaz Ruz.

PR®® Yellow markings
Turn right onto the small road that crosses the hamlet of Styvel and continue along a grassy path towards the D7.

(12) Cross this road with caution and climb up the path which continues along a street. At the junction with the Kervelec path (street), turn right and continue for about 100 m until you reach a crossroads.

Turn left onto this small path, cross the Vieille Route de Plonévez and continue along the path opposite, which leads to Rue Moal. On this street, note the layout of two houses which were originally intended to be one: they share a common doorway. Go down to the right towards the calvary, then turn left towards the Notre-Dame de Bonne Nouvelle Chapel and the Saint-Eutrope Fountain, which is connected to a wash house.

(13) Take the stony path called Chemin de Bonne Nouvelle, which climbs up behind the chapel. Ignore a path on the right and continue to a fork, with the school on the left. Turn right and join Rue du Prieuré, then the car park on the right (S/E).

A beautiful walk through woods and the superb village of Locronan. Don't forget to walk behind the chapel to see it with the wash house in front of it.

A beautiful hike in wonderful weather.
It's just a shame that you have to pay for parking in Locronan (€4 per day). We took the opportunity to have a look around the village.
The route is very well described by the author. Thank you.
