Along the banks of the Odet on the Gouesnach side

On the Gouesnac'h side, access to the banks of the Odet is relatively limited. After a stretch through the countryside, this route allows you to follow this coastal river for about 3 km.
Be aware of the tide times: at high tide, the site is only accessible when the tidal coefficient is below 60. For greater safety, it is best to go at low tide.

Description of the walk

Parking opposite the Town Hall.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, head west along Rue de Toufoen, keeping the cemetery on your left.

Green markings

Turn left at the first intersection, Rue de Pontnellis (dead end sign with pedestrian logo), and continue straight ahead until you reach a barrier.

No markings

(1) Turn left into a wooded area along a stream, cross a small bridge and turn south (visible on OSM).

(2) Cross Allée des Chênes and continue straight ahead along a footpath that crosses this residential area. Pass a roundabout with a lamppost and continue straight ahead until you reach Impasse des Ajoncs.

(3) Turn left and you will come to a road; turn right onto it.

Green markings

At the T-junction, turn right and continue until you reach the first road on the left, Hent Roboliou.

(4) Continue for about ten metres and turn right onto Allée de Pouldiguy, a narrow road lined with trees. At the Y-junction, turn right onto Hent Keranner at the edge of the woods to reach a multiple junction.

Yellow markings

(5) Turn left, leaving the green markings for the yellow ones. Follow the signs for Porz Gwen (Guen) along the footpath. This path is actually a small road lined with imposing trees.
Go down this road heading south, passing a botanical trail in the woods on your right, and arrive at the edge of the Odet (with a view of the Cornouaille bridge in the background).

Yellow and red markings

(6) Follow the path on the right at the top of the beach, going upstream. It is best to walk at the top of the beach, passing under the large branches that lean towards the water. Note that some of them need to be supported, often in unusual ways.

Yellow markings

(7) Go around Anse de Porz Garo where the botanical trail ends. From here, you can also see Lanhuron Castle on the right. Continue along the beach under the branches of the trees lining the shore. Be careful, as some rocks may be slippery in places. As you approach Pors Keraign, you will see the Manoir de Kerouzien on the other bank, on the Plomelin side. Reach the slipway and note the importance of this location for mooring boats due to its access via the small road.

(8) Turn right and go up the small road that runs alongside a campsite. Be careful, this narrow road can be busy as it is the only way to reach the Pors Keraign mooring. At the first three-way junction (signposted "bourg de Gouesnac'h conseillé"), turn right and stay on the same small road.
Pass a sign marking the entrance to the village and arrive at a crossroads (give way sign).

(9) Turn left (signposted Gouesnac'h bourg) and continue to the roundabout. Leave the sign for Gouesnac'h village on your right, first turn left then right and take the small road called Hent Menez Land Gras. At the next three-way junction, opposite a small stone house, turn right following the signs and you will arrive at a T-junction.

Off the trail

(10) Turn right, leaving the yellow signposting to your left, and continue for about 50 metres along the edge of a wood. Behind a house (No. 42), turn left into a large gap in the wood. Continue straight ahead until you reach the junction with the D234. This section through the woods may be a little muddy due to roadworks. Turn right, pass the sign for Gouesnach (picnic tables) and you will come to a roundabout.

(11) Leave the road and turn right into the housing estate, then follow the street on the left. Continue along a pedestrian crossing and turn left to reach a roundabout. Turn right, pass a second roundabout and at the next one, turn left into Avenue du Stade.

(12) Turn left onto the pedestrian crossing that takes you past the church, then turn right onto the street to reach the town hall on the left (S/E).

Notes

This hike is classified as moderate because the path along the Odet is not always easy and some rocks can be slippery: caution is advised.
_Be aware of the tide times__: at high tide, the site is only accessible when the tidal coefficient is below 60. For greater safety, it is best to walk at low tide.

Worth a visit

An original path along the river under the imposing branches of hundred-year-old oak and chestnut trees, some of which are flooded at high tide.
Some trees even need "crutches" to support them.

Seabirds, egrets and herons are regularly seen here.

Gouesnac'h Church.

Lanhuron Castle.
Protestant school project.

A protohistoric boundary stone, which was Christianised at some point by the addition of a cross, is still visible at the entrance to the village.

I did this Gouesnac'h route today, 13 November 2025, in overcast but dry weather and at low tide.
As the leader of a group of hikers, I am looking for routes for the first quarter of 2025 near Quimper.
There's a lot of tarmac to cover! The coastal section from Porz Guen to Pors Keraïgn is very difficult: there are lots of trees that were blown down by the storms in October and November, and the ground is very muddy.
This route can be done by 1 to 3 people, but no more given these obstacles.
I give it a score of 8/20. Fortunately, there is the St-Cadou chapel route in the municipality.
Kind regards, Michel T from Quimper

A beautiful walk along the Odet, but only at low tide, otherwise even with a low tidal range it can be problematic.
At number 10, the path through the woods is very muddy, slushy and difficult to cross.

Shortened hike. It should be done at low tide: passage is largely impossible after the spring (point 4).
However, the tidal coefficient was only 61 (very calm weather). Do not believe the sign at the entrance.
It's a shame, as the site promised to be superb.

The walk under the hundred-year-old trees along the banks of the Odet is magnificent.
We went there at low tide, but there was still a very muddy section that was unavoidable when crossing a small stream just before arriving at Pors Keraign.

A lovely walk along the Odet river and a chance to discover the village of Gouesnach with its discreet and very pretty houses surrounded by greenery.

A very pleasant route enjoyed under autumn sunshine and temperatures that were neither too cool nor too warm.
A feast for the eyes. Worth repeating in other seasons to capture different light conditions.
